Okay. This is a pretty subtle war flick. It's obviously got the tragedies and explosions and such but it sits with you in a way that isn't so direct. It starts with an immediate impact and doesn't really stop from there.
You get a few chances to catch your breath but they aren't that frequent and it keeps the pressure on for the length of the movie. People are going to call this Nolan's masterpiece and they aren't going to be too far off. But it isn't a complex story and while it's executed extremely well it doesn't ask much of the audience other than to bear witness. And bear witness we do! Those dogfight sequences are soooo good.
Nolan continues to solidify himself as an extremely capable director with broad appeal and if you like movies at all this one is going to be among the year's best.
