Hidden Figures - Movie review

New to Netflix.

Hidden figures is new to Netflix but was released in 2016. I found it at the weekend on my usual browse for something to watch and we were in movie mode. I recognized the title as a big release and had seen clips online in the past that made me want to check it out.

Based on a true story as a lot of the best movies are it follows the struggles of three black women overlooked and neglected in their roles at NASA due to their sex and race but who provide invaluable assistance in launching the first manned space flight from America.

Despite the struggles that they face in their roles over time their intelligence and ideas make them impossible to overlook and it changes the face and mind of the organization as they take center stage in the mission and help it to become a success.

The story is a product of it's time where race divided the country and ladies and blacks people were considered a lower class of citizen compared to white makes who held all the power in these organizations.

The movie itself was a very good watch and had enough action and excitement to keep me interested while the main characters had the charisma and content to make it an entertaining watch all the way through. I don't always enjoy period pieces as movies but this was an exciting time in America and the background to space launches and NASA is right up my alley.

It's glimpse into the racism at the time sets tells it's own tale with a lot of it from one race oblivious to the struggles of the other and how hard it was to break through that to become a success.

I enjoyed the movie and would recommend as a watch especially since it's now on Netflix making it very accessible. Solid watch, interesting but educational.
