Stan und Ollie bekommen vom Arbeitsamt einen Job als Diener in reichem Hause des Ehepaars Wanderwald vermittelt. Wegen ihrer praktischen Unfähigkeit werden sie jedoch schon am ersten Abend mit dem Gewehr aus dem Haus gejagt und sind fortan Straßenkehrer. Durch Zufall vereiteln sie einen Bankraub, was durch den Bankdirektor mit einem Stipendium für Oxford belohnt wird. Dort verwandelt sich Stan durch einen Schlag auf den Hinterkopf in einen snobistisch-genialen Lord.
