Movie review: Life of Pi (2012)

This movie is filled with awe of nature as it is seen in the dazzling image of a dense forest and remote sea. This alone is a bit insufficient. The film shows the tremendous power of Mother Nature, as a huge tidal wave will sink cargo ships and a flock of flying fish will naturally overwhelm them with bare skin. This is also lacking. To understand Life of Pie as it appears is a misnomer. We must understand what is not seen in this movie, and what is not shown in the end. No, I was wrong about understanding. You just have to accept it as it is. Isn't this word also unsatisfied? Then just believe. Believe such a beautiful and mysterious story.

Life of Pi is quite unique. That's because it turned the novel into Hollywood's capital and technology, and a Taiwanese director cast Indian actors. The multi-national-colored film, therefore, has drawn various religious references and is in itself deeply jealous of Mise-en-Scène. Moreover, it would not have been an easy attempt to speak deep literary language differently into movie language.

When you see a blue whale soaring up on the surface of the water or swimming on the sea covered by the sunset, you nod to the visual feast. Of course, Ang Lee's video is flexible and as smooth as it is. When the sea functions as a mirror, the sea is turned to the sky, and it looks like they appear to be on the sky or in the middle of the universe. Movies with only styles don't have credibility. If a movie is a good one with a proper format and content, this is what I say. The drifting period of a Pi is the reflection and growth itself that finally escapes from the past, believing in many religions.

The director, who is clever with his long short, raises the sense of space to the maximum and reminds us of where the world of characters is. It is also impressive that the present, which tells the story to the novelist, and the past, which is the content of the story, are naturally used as a dissolve. If you watch the 'Hulk', which looks like a comic book, or the hupping of hippies in a concert hall changing onto a galaxy in the 'Woodstock Festival' , it's quite similar to the way life of Pi is edited.

It is significant that the whole story is changed to Japanese reporters who do not believe in him. The reversal that the animals were actually chefs, sailors and mothers is not just an event to surprise audiences. The question " Which story do you like " is a little bit more convincing than " Which story do you believe? " To reconsider how things fit with the two stories mentioned in the opening paragraph is to have only a superficial interpretation. In short, the movie's focus is to figure out how the two stories are related.

Richard Parker is a threatening creature, a reflection of his own loneliness or fear, and, to put it all aside, a pie himself. It is entirely right or wrong. The audience, as well as Japanese reporters, should choose one of the two plausible stories of the pie. We have to choose among the meanings given to tigers. Only then can the story be told. In this film, which has a lot of choices, you have to make choices and have faith. As Pi did in the open sea.

As pie is asking a novelist in ending at the same time, Ang Lee movie audience question, too. Movies or literature attracts audiences and readers with fictional stories. The two art media have an intersection in creating a story that is not in the world. But those who properly embrace it can see the world of ' now ' in a very different way. Here ' acceptance ' is in line with ' belief '. In any case, it is only when you believe that you can give meaning to it, and when you give meaning to it, you can become a complete art.
