RE: Quote of the day: "Happiness will never come to those who fail to appreciate what they already have."

I had my Bachelor of Electrical Engineering some years ago and since then I have been applying to MIT as an international student for a Masters degree program, unfortunately I have always been rejected, this made me very unhappy with myself, I thought maybe I wasn’t good enough, I blamed the 3rd world country I was born in, i blamed my parents for not having enough to give me a better and more quality education, I blamed virtually everything around me. Until I had an encounter that changed my mentality. I volunteered for an outreach program in a rural community, where I was opportuned to converse at length with some youths in the community, to my greatest surprise in this 21st century majority of them have never seen the four walls of a classroom, not that they don’t want to go to school, the opportunity never presented itself , then I realized how much of an ingrate I was, I have always compared myself with my friends who possess Phd degrees owing to the fact that they left my country when we were in high school, and here are some folks who can’t even read or write A-Z. Then I learnt my lesson to be grateful for the little I have achieved and be hopeful for greater things ahead.
Finally, some of the people we compare ourselves with are just living a make believe or fake lives, one wouldn’t know until you get close to them.
We should learn how to be grateful if not for anything at all but for the gift of life, that alone is enough reason to be appreciative.
@czechglobalhosts, Thanks for giving me an avenue to share this.
