Matthew 6:22-23 (AMP)
22 The eye is the lamp of the body. So if your eye is sound, your entire body will be full of light. 23 But if your eye is unsound, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the very light in you [your conscience] is darkened, how dense is that darkness!
Reflections:
What a precious gift the eye is. Through it light enters into our bodies and brings to life everything around us. There is so much we want to see and do in the earth.
In the Book of Proverbs we read, “Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied (Prov 27:10).”
King Solomon withheld nothing from his eyes, “Anything my eyes saw and wanted, I got for myself. My mind was pleased with everything I did. And this happiness was the reward for all my hard work (Eccl 2:10).”
What we see can have an incredible impact on our lives. What we allow our eyes to behold can either bring life and blessing or death and cursing. The eye is the window to the soul and what images we store up internally can and does affect our lives in some way.
Why is it that the wholesome images we take in seem to flee rather quickly, but the dark or evil images seem to burn themselves so deeply into our soul; resisting expulsion and bringing torment with them?
I can’t help but thinking about the words that children’s song,
Be careful little eyes what you see.
Be careful little eyes what you see.
There’s a Father up above and He’s looking down in love.
So be careful little eyes what you see.
We would serve ourselves well to choose carefully the images we allow through our eye-gate and into our souls …
