πŸ”² HOW 10 000 HOURS CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE?

in #motivation β€’ 7 years ago

Well it has often been said that to become a professional in anything it only takes 10 000 hours!

_MG_8320.jpg

Malcom Gladwell stated this in his book, Outliers: The Story of Success. He studied some of the most successful people of the world, including a wide range of talents, such as business men, sportsmen musicians and many more!

He found one of the key aspects about these men and women was that their IQ was above 130. So, if your IQ is above 130 be glad because statistically speaking you can become an expert in anything in 4 years if you really push for it!

Again this just proves that no one is truly born more advanced than another and success is something that anyone can achieve. Granted if your IQ is below 130 it may take a little longer, and yes you can increase your IQ!

So for those of you reading this, that have a list of excuses as to why you aren't in the position you wish to be in. Write that list, crumple it up and throw it in the bin! There is no valid excuse for your life!

Hey @longfield98! Great short article about this topic, I LOVE it (applied it to my Learning Japanese).

For everyone who did not read the book, the 10.000 Hour Rule has one caveat to watch out for:

  • it only applies, if the practitioner gets very timely FEEDBACK!

This means, you can exercise the violin "alone" for 3 hours a day for 10 years (which is roughly 10.000 hours) and still be far behind someone who takes lessons with a skilled teacher for only 2 years, ~ something along the lines...

Another example would be INVESTMENT/TRADING. Since the nature of most investment strategies is such, that there is no immediate feedback (to measure your success you would need to wait for many trades and many weeks/months/years) the 10.000 Hour Rule also doesn't apply.

So before you get hyped and carve out your 10 year plan to become an EXPERT in your field, first make sure, that there is a way to get very timely or immediate feedback.

Cheers!

Very true, I missed the segment on timely feedback entirely on this post and it is very important! I really appreciate the comment there! Gave you a follow. Curious as to how many hours it took you to learn Japanese?

Hope you keep well.

Apart from the fact that "learning Japanese" in my definition already starts with the first word or character learned, I can give you a short statistic on how much time I invested before going to Japan an being able to live, communicate and work there for more than a year:

I spent:

  • 3 years
  • learning literally everyday for around 3 hours
  • which makes 3 * 365 * 3 hours which is roughly 3300 HOURS

I used a spaced repetition software called ANKI. And I spent the first 3 months just learning the 2000 most used Kanji (Chinese characters). Only then did I start really learning words and sentences.

10 000 Hours very interesting , did you wash my car looks great :-)

Wash you car? Sorry seem a tad lost. Haha

truly there is no excuse, within every one of us is infinite potential. any limiting belief like lack is useless. charity = oppression. into a world where GOD can express himself through us without limit, and understand himself. with ai amplifying human potential, towards purpose. cant use up creativity, the more i use the more i have. everything for me nothing against me, and to contradict is illusion. to waste potential which is god given is sin if any

I definitely agree with you, the religious perspective is very enlightening and opens an entirely different dimension for this topic! Its crazy to think that God has been able to express himself without limit though us, without us even thinking about it in that way. Just goes to show to you have a passion for something/someone you don't feel tasks/work requiring that much effort.

Thanks for stopping by!

Lol dude, I was watching Discovery Channel with this guy that was super run of the mill type of guy and he was challenging professionals in their field. Thats where the 10 000 hours came from! Will keep an eye out brother!

See you today! Photoshoot!

Yeah going to try out that new whip ;)

The 750D!

And it was brilliant! Oh by the way, not 80D anymore.. I'm thinking more 77D ;)

Just go get a 5D mark III

That doesn't sound like a bad idea.. Let me just go buy one quick :P

Wow! I really did think it was less than 10,000 hours. Must be on the lower scale here, but I am working it!

Just keep on grinding at what you are doing!
