A new revolution in content creation has started with the dawn of Steemit. Although every Steemian has to work hard to get the deserved appreciation first, after a few weeks we begin to meet what I call the the Instant Gratification Monster that pulls you in and transforms you into an efficient production machine.
Whether you are an artist, a musician, a writer, a video creator or work with any other form of creative content than you usually had a hard time making money. Most people engulf themselves in these areas mainly as a hobby because making a living with that was incredibly hard. Despite this financial hurdle we have seen a content explosion with the internet and rapidly more sophisticated software like never before in human history. People just love to create!
Whatever creation you are looking for you will usually find an abundance of it online. The majority of these works are all done in the spare time of people who provide for their livings otherwise. Of course you will find monetization of this content in all areas but it takes time and is often a lonely road. So most people end up earning absolutely nothing for their content.
However, they continue doing so because on one hand they love doing it and on the other they get addicted to the feedback of their different social networks where they publish and share their work. Over time this might even lead to greater opportunities thanks to the scaling with a growing network. But coming that far was reserved only for the 1% of the most dilligent working people because the others neither had time nor motivation to follow this path.
On Steemit content creators start to earn their first direct feedback money. It starts slowly and requires work and endurance to build up their networks. The same goes for other platforms like YouTube but on Steemit this happens much faster and with way more rapport between the content creators and their audiences.
Even if the income is not enough to make a full living from it the Steem Power adds up and grows in their accounts. Assuming the Steem price will never grow significantly anymore but at least stay where it is, the money saved like this will stack up over the years and create some really nice fund for later. If the price goes up - ecstasy!
The financial prospect activates the Instant Gratification Monster which drives people into working harder and more often on their creations. When they see the rewards popping up their bodies are flooded with hormones and they feel great. The same effect has been discovered with Facebook likes: People get addicted to that positive feedback from their social networks. Steemit pairs that with a financial reward which even more increases the effect.
The ability to go all-in and dedicate most of your time to your work is something that lies dormant in many humans. However, the reality of our daily life prevents us from activating it. Steemit changes that with the Instant Gratification Monster that lures them slowly into its web and spins a cocoon around them.
During their metamorphosis they produce and learn and start to realize step by step how great the potential of Steemit is and how much it could change their lifes if they flip the switch into Power User mode. Eventually they hatch and out comes a butterfly the world has never seen before. Creatures of inspiration that grew out of the possibility to free themselves from the imaginary shackles of the world and henceforth live their lifes by giving back to the hive mind.
The Power User is the most productive creature in the world. It delivers more content in a week than others in months. These people become beacons of motivation for others who are yet just on the outer rim of the Monsters web. Each power user increases the worth of Steemit with their neverending streams of quality flooding down the Steem blockchain, heralding the new age of creativity.
The main problem with Steemit right now is it's a loose collection of applications to create a meta-app that needs to be integrated into 1 app on all platforms that basically works the same on all platforms.
The second main problem is that there is no available taxonomy of forum groups. Only tags, and the only work so well.. on their own.
So something like subreddits will add a new dimension for Steemit for groups based on interest, on a more specific basis, and not just on personalities (and who can be most popular).
Third; the above two issues, are hindered by distractions in priorities and goals.
Cool graphics, great article. Followed.
Thank you Surfyogi for your great comment and upvote!
I agree partly on the first problem. Steemit lacks many features that third party apps easily provide. I hope that the new UX/UI they announced witll deal with that. In general though I think it is awesome how modular people can build apps around Steem.
The second problem is absolutely terrible! It is so difficult to find good content you are interested in. ChainBB is a nice step but to be honest I would prefer that within Steemit in a not-so forum style way. I think this is crucial for the growth of Steemit. However, it is not influencing my Gratification Monster very much. ;)
About the third I don't have an opinion since I know to little from the inner circle of Steemit inc.
How does Steemit motivates you to create content, @surfyogi?
Loving the theme of this post my man! 100% upvoted!
Thanks, Zane! I try to experiment with new things like these image styles for example. Haven't really found my way there yet. ;)
I agree with you that unlike other social media or other websites, the audience you can reach here goes much faster. That is what makes Steemit more lively for me.
The instant gratification monster you are talking about, has also its dark side I think. When people are not rewarded instantly for the work they have put it in, it leads to instant disappointment, so to say. For those people it might be very discouraging to continue and they need really a lot of endurance.
However I think this is a good thing, those people will keep creating good stuff, because they like it, and are not only in here because of the money... Those people are making Steemit great :)
Right, currently it is very difficult to activate the monster. You need to work towards that first and that could and will be better. Everaything is still so new here and we evolve in with the speed of light.
Exactly on point. We do this because this is what we do. What better place to do it then here? No better time to get on this rocket ship
Fantastic!!!
Some of us come here without any prior 'content creation' experience but if you understand steemit, it kinda forces the creativity out of you.
Steemit has revolutionized the way content is rewarded.
You are right, even if you come here without being a creator previously you kind of become quickly one yourself!
Nailed it. We do this because this is what we do. I used to do it for free. There is no better feeling than providing value to the human race.most creators don't have big ego"s. It's nice to get a pat on the back for pouring yourself I to something. We all have some kind d of talent that can benefit the community
Exactly, @sostrin!
If we get the chance we are all creators!

First of all, love the graphics :) I was grabbed by the monster immediately, I got lucky on my first real post and was blessed by Curie with a 300 dollar payout. After that I was hooked. The monster keeps pushing me to get better and improve. The monster is addicting, powerful and once he gets his hooks in you, he won't let go. I love it!
Wow you made 300 on your first post? Nice one!
Yeah, It wasn't until later that I figured out how lucky I was.
Haha, I bet! The next weeks must have been tough to go through after such a starter.
Funny thing was that I got a trending post 3 weeks in a row. It was only after 4 -5 weeks I understood that getting 200-300 dollars every weekend wasn't a regular thing :) . I figured out later that is was the curie trail who were responsible for my good fortune.
Oooh, how nice. That explains some of your nice stash of SP. Well, you deserve it!
Well said. As long as people can keep things in perspective. Obviously, on other platforms, we don't get monetary rewards for just posting, but people drive an audience to their other enterprises. That is hard on a relatively small platform like Steemit.
If people throw themselves into producing here and neglect other venues, they might find that the few cents per article are not enough to keep them here.
From what I have seen - a lot of the ones doing really well have been here for awhile and also invested by buying steem.
I do agree that quality content producers are good for the platform.
Great post and awesome theme! Congratulations @flauwy
Thank you, I put love into my posts. ;)
I feel like there are instant gratification monsters everywhere in social media! The difference is that elsewhere I am left feeling dirty and used. With Steemits I am left feeling minty-clean and refreshed. Booyah! β
Yes, that is right. The first time I heard about psychological effects from social media was from people getting addicted to likes. Steemit is much more than that.
I was just telling someone on FB about Steemit. I mentioned that initially, when I heard 'how great the community here is...' I thought... yep - of course. One. Giant. Huge. Circle-jerk. Of course everyone is nice and friendly - WHEN THERE'S MONEY TO BE MADE!!! And OBVIOUSLY there is an element of that. But what I have come to actually see is how genuine people are, how it fosters sharing and collective collaboration, that people will GENUINELY upvote when given reason to, that if feels good to, in some small way, lift other people up. Of course there are exceptions to every rule but yeah, overall, this place is pretty sweet!!!!! Loving that I'm finding little tidbits of random crazyness people have come up with! π Like... I'm not actually going to @ mention him because I feel like I'm 'taxing' the bot to death(even though, that's what he's there for...) but have you heard of cleverbot? He will re-follow if you follow him and upvote your stuff... you can even just @ mention him in a comment. Something as little as that can put a smile on someones face. I found that thanks to @ubg. Anyways. Keep up the good work! See you around π
I agree, on the surface it is a bit weird. But love and compassion are stronger than greed and have flowerd into a marvelous community here! The financial aspect makes it so powerful, without it the effect would be like hot air. Nice but doesn't change much. Steemit DOES change for so many.
This is more like it @flawny
Content creation is the inherent jurisdiction of creativity
We have to embrace it and learn to ply the trade with every seriousness, knowing fully well, we are cocooned by this gratification monsters
Nice choice of words, @nwokike! :)
