We live in a world of instant gratification where patience is underrated. But looking at the life of the greats you see a clear pattern. You simply have to do the groundwork, bide the time laying a strong foundation. See and understand the big picture.
Patience shouldn't be confused with laziness, it does not mean sitting down idly, waiting for opportunity, patience means working hard while waiting, without complaint, or irritation, ready and on alert to seize opportunity.
It's easy to say "be patient" but its much harder to actually be patient and more especially when you are working hard but not seeing any immediate result. In this times encourage yourself to trust in the process.
