I had to google lens artifact. I'd not heard of that before you mentioned it again. It must be as you say from what I read. I was shooting in the direction of the sun but I have a hood and a filter on my lens. It's an interesting look at any rate.
Yes, it is different! But, having seen it before, that was my suspicion...
