I think that home ownership is declining because of lower interest rates and cheap money there has been enormous price inflation in assets including housing. While lower interest rates make affording a house easier, I believe that this has also caused the general price of real estate to also rise more negating this benefit.

I do also think there is also a psychological shift in the younger generations especially in millenials against homeownership.
