eCommerce – How to find the perfect product to sell online

in #money8 years ago

In this post, I’m going to show you my dear "steemians" how I choose the perfect products to sell through my eCommerce stores. I’ve been running my online shops for some time now, and I want to share with you my experience and knowledge. Things to keep in mind before starting

Build a captivating brand - The brand is what defines your product. This is the first thing that comes into contact with your potential customer. If your brand is not exciting and captivating, customers will get bored quickly and look for more interesting things elsewhere.

Identify and solve a customer pain point - This is the basis for any successful business. In fact, this must be your goal from the beginning to the end. A person who has a "pain" is ready to pay anyone who can solve his problem.

Follow your passion - You must first consider the products you are familiar with or products that you use yourself. It's much easier to sell something you know a lot about, do not you? The biggest advantage in working with your passions is that they will help you get through the frustrating moments. Staying motivated is a major key to building a successful online business.

Capitalize on trends early - When is the best time to take advantage of a new trend if not when it first launches? If you manage to do that, you will be able to establish yourself as a market leader and most customers will buy from you and not from the competition.

Where to look for product ideas

Start with your own problems first - We all have problems and discontent, and I am convinced that you once thought "why is there no product that ...?". After completing the dotted line, you will already have your first product idea.

Local community - Most times, the perfect product may be closer than you think. Look at the industry in the city where you live. Maybe in your town, they make a product that is very rare elsewhere. A good start would be to read local newspapers that usually do not miss an opportunity to promote a new, locally made product.

Online consumer trend publications - What better place to find a new product than this? Here you will find reviews about the latest and most exciting products on the market all over the world. You can start your search at Trend Watching, Trend Hunter or Spring Wise.

Industry leaders - Maybe you do not know what product to sell, but you know the market you want to be in. Using various online tools, you can discover and follow the influents in the industry you are interested in. You can start with Get Little Bird or Follower Wonk.

Product review blogs - Such blogs can be a great source of ideas for the product you are looking for. I will give you my list of favorite review blogs:

 www.uncrate.com

 www.outblush.com

 www.blessthisstuff.com

 www.coolmaterial.com

 www.gearmoose.com

 www.werd.com

 www.hiconsumption.com

 www.firebox.com

Social curation sites - Social curation sites like Pinterest may turn out to be a gold mine when it comes to looking for new and trending products. Using the built-in social signals you can sometimes get a sense almost immediately of their popularity. The most popular sites you are looking for are:

www.pinterest.com

www.polyvore.com

www.fancy.com

www.wanelo.com

Business-to-Business wholesale marketplaces - And I'm talking about Alibaba. Alibaba is the most popular eCommerce platform that unites the Asian businesses with others around the world. If you have never entered Alibaba, you will be amazed at the exorbitant number of products for sale. Among the Alibaba competitors can list:

www.tradekey.com

www.globalsources.com

www.made-in-china.com

Online consumer marketplaces -  last one but not the least, these marketplaces are a great place to look for products that are new and trending. You can very easily appreciate the popularity of a product by the number of sales it has. I’m sure you already heard of

www.ebay.com

www.amazon.com

www.kickstarter.com

www.aliexpress.com

Sort:

Simply sell what you have. :) and can ship at a low cost.

Well, you'll need more than that if you want to turn a profit :)

You put tradekey.com as a competitor to Alibaba. Have you ever tried it? Do you know anything about this company? You need to do in-depth research before recommending companies. Tradekey is a big scam, that sells the hope of getting customers, which you will never get through them. They create profiles of fake companies, and connect verified and well established companies to well known scammers. I will even say that Tradekey might actually hire those scammers to take people on rides for months.
Plus Tradekey will never give you a good sense on where trends are heading, or allow you to identify that next hot product that'll allow you to make sales online.
I suggest you revisit the whole article, and research the industry in a serious manner.
