TEHRAN (Reuters) - Turkey's football club has completed its first ever transfer in the country's history using the digital "configuration" currency, CNN Turk television reported.
Harun Middlea Sport, a local amateur club, signed a 22-year contract with Omar Farouk Kiroglo for 2,000 pounds ($ 531.70) and 2,500 pounds in cash.
Khaldoun Shahid, president of the club, said the move was the first of its kind for a sports club in Turkey and around the world. "We have done this to make ourselves a name in the country and the world," he said. "We are proud of this."
With a record high of nearly $ 20,000 on December 17th on the Luxembourg-based Bistustamp platform, the world's most popular digital currency has fallen more than 50 percent over the month. Next, to less than ten thousand dollars. But has since stabilized at around $ 11,000.
The Turkish government has warned against using digital currency, saying it was "risky because there are no legal grounds for such deals." While EU member states agreed last month to impose stricter controls on the platforms and other virtual currencies in an effort to combat money laundering and terrorist financing.
