Goal for 2018 - Pay off my Debt! Could Blogging on Steemit help?

in #money7 years ago (edited)

What are you goals for the upcoming new year 2018?
For me... I want to pay off my debt!

Finding Steemit has been a huge blessing for me. It has opened my eyes to so many possibilities out there. The fact that we can post our content on Steemit and possibly get rewarded for it is truly a blessing. I personally would love to see how this could potentially help people like myself get out of debt.

I am someone who is not married, no kids, & no mortgage... but I am saddled with Student Loans and a Car Payment. I rent an apt, and work numerous jobs. I have managed to get my total debt under $20k, and I would like to make 2018 the year I really push hard towards paying it all off. I may not be able to do it in a year, but I would like to get at least the Student Loans, or the car paid off. Each one is roughly $9k. I assume that paying off the car would be wiser, so that is most likely what I will push for first. Either way, I would like 2018 to be the year that I become Debt Free.

I would love it if blogging on Steemit could somehow help me acheive this goal of being debt free faster. I have been on the site since May 2017, and due to the recent increases in SBD price and Steem price, my account is now valued a little over $3k. Technically, I am already about 20% of the way to paying off my debts based on just my Steem account value alone. Of course, this value can fluctuate or even go to zero, so I can't rely on it totally. It could be a give help though if things keep going in a positive direction on the platform!

I am planning to work hard in 2018 to cut any unneeded spending habits, cut back on dining out, etc to help save money and pay down the debts faster. I hope to chronicle some of my experience here on my Steemit blog!

It is my hope that we all can find some level of financial success with our Steemit blogs. It will be an interesting year in 2018. I enjoy Steemit a lot, and I hope that it can become a place for creative people to continue to prosper by sharing their original content and life experiences, while hopefully being rewarded for it.

I am no expert when it comes to any of this, and this is all just my opinion. Always do your own research.

I just would love to one day wake up and not feel like I owe anyone anything! 😎

Do you have any ideas for becoming debt free faster?

Heres to becoming Debt Free!

This post is just my opinion, and I am not a financial expert. Always do your own research. This is not financial advice!

well geepers I hope you didnt get yourself into that much debt!

Haha it's not too bad, but I'd still like to pay it all off as soon as possible!

my goal for coming 2018 would be to withdraw a steady income from this platform and prove all critics (family, friends, relatives) that not all online-based jobs are fraud and if one does anything with sheer dedication and honesty, result will difinitely come.

Right on!! I have four student loans and credit card debt incurred also from college. Sucks. However, last month WITH some of my blogging and crypto dealings, I paid the last of a remaining credit card from college, which I estimate that debt was at least 6 years old so I was extremely happy. It can be done. I understand what you're saying completely. I'd really love to say my student debt could mostly be eliminated next year. I KNOW the last two credit cards will. I do have a car loan also of which I'm projected to pay off early becayse I always pay over on it. Maybe late 2018. Thanks for sharing this @ma1neevent, glad to know I'm not the only one tackling my debt this way

I wish you the best of luck. My goal is to save up a nice down payment on a house through my blogging. I have been at it for 5 years now but this is my first night on Steemit. I dream about the day my passion nets me more than my 9-5.

That would be awesome!

Back in the day, I got into writing a lot of Squidoo and Hubpages. I made a few bucks here and there which was a major help when I was still living in my first apartment.

Steemit seems like it would be a real game changer if you commit and keep at it. Plus, a journal is always good either way -- lets you look back, reflect, see how far you've come.

Power to ya!

Great goal! I hope you achieve it. At the current rate I just need 10,000 sbd to pay my mortgage, so yes Steemit is a blessing. Maybe I won't pay it immediately but it sure helps. Good luck!!

Reducing your expenses is one way to help get out of debt. Sounds like monopoly get out of jail card. LOL Decide what is TRULY a need and what is a want. Steemit may help but one must have multiple strategies. Learn self-discipline. if you have extra money act like it is not there. Pay off your credit cards first. What are my goals? Spreading joy to others I see and perhaps falling in love again if possible. Perhaps there is a Steemit dating site! LOL blessings-

Goals are great! And it's also a great first step to reach a goal, to actually set one:-) Good luck, I think you can do it!

thats a good goal for 2018 and going for the car paid off first seems to make sense for me

my bug debt is the mortage for our house, I dont foresee steemit enabling me to pay that off in 2018 but I do hope with some positive growth in 2018 it can start to make a little dent in it at least

good luck acheiving your goals

Wish you best of luck, We will try our best to achieve it.

Thank you, it would truly be a blessing that is for sure! Thank you for reading and commenting @mzee!

Wishing you the best and hope you are debt free by the end of 2018

You can do it, Dave Ramsey financial freedom plan helped me become debit free. You not agree with everything he says, but his zero budget plan is the secret to becoming & living debit free.

I will try and look into it, I am open to any new ideas! Thank you as always Kubby! :-)

Let me what you decided to do :)

I wish you every success, and hope I can help with my 100% Upvote! Apart from our mortgage, which we had to renegotiate when my husband was forced into early retirement just before the financial crash of 2008, we are otherwise debt free. We look upon our mortgage as rent, but wish we did not have to pay it! We do have to remind ourselves at times that we are the fortunate ones, as so many of our neighbors lost their homes altogether, as did my son. We took the Dave Ramsay Financial University course and it was a great help!

Happy to hear you have been able to become debt free! I appreciate the upvote and comment! Thanks for reading, and best of luck to you! I do need to look into that Dave Ramsay program! Thanks @dmcamera!

You are welcome. His way of paying things off is very encouraging, because he has you pay off the smallest amounts owed first to give you a sense of accomplishment. Other programs aim at paying off the amounts with the highest interest first. Now we only spend the money that we have. .He recommends not using credit cards at all, but we use them to our advantage - gaining points and cashback etc. We pay the amount charged, as soon as we get home from shopping! If we don't have the money to pay off the charge, then we can't spend it is our rule!

I would not personally be in a rush to pay off student loans, as you can claim the interest on your taxes, which is great. Pay the car off. Its a great feeling knowing that is paid off. But keep full coverage on the car because if someome hits you that is not insired, it will be all for NOT.

I hope you get there!! I'm for the most part debt free, but there are a couple bills we have to take care of at tax return time and still the mortgage. My husband's out of work and I'd love to just contribute financially to the family, but I ran into a writer's block of sorts, and filling up my feed with the seven day black and white photo challenge isn't helping. And I gave almost all my sbd to someone I owe... Ah well, maybe someday. Best of luck to you. :)

Sounds like a great goal for 2018 main! At the pace your blog is growing, combined with the growth of Steem and SBD I think you will reach your goal sooner than you think!
