"Life Problems" | Gambling & How To Stop It

in #money7 years ago

Hello Steemians,

Todays post will be about a problem i've had in my life for a long time, but recently got out of. Gambling, or to be more specific "online gambling". This has to be the worst addiction i've ever had in my life, besides smoking which i'm also trying to get rid of. Now my addiction wasn't super serious, but if i would've continued gambling it would've probably not ended up too well.

Why is this the most dangerous addiction one can have?

There's a simple answer to that question, "Money". Money is what keeps everyone moving forward. It's what makes you able to buy food, clothes and other stuff in your life that you need. A brutal gambling addiction has many negative sides to it. It leads to job loss, stuck in life long debts, depression, anxiety and most of all Suicide.

My gambling addiction wasn't that brutal, but. All of the money loss lead to depression and a feeling of failure in life. I knew how bad it was, and i knew how bad i felt about it, but "just one more bet" kept me away from actually stopping my gambling addiction.

I've won a lot of money, but I ALWAYS lose it later. No matter how much it might be, i always loose it. And this is what keeps you going, that you are able to win a lot. But what you don't realize is that your brain is now in it's own world. All you can see in front of you is the money raining down, and a moment later, you're left with a penny in your hand. How could it happend? everything went so well!, And then you deposit one more time and the same thing happends, every single time.

That's why it's so dangerous, there's no stopping it.

How did i get rid of this?

Well, the truth is, i had to do it the hard way because there was no other way out. I plugged out my computer, put it in a bag, walked to my car and drove it to my friends house. There he would sit, waiting for my addiction to go away. After about 3 weeks i finally came back to my computer. Even then i still felt the need to continue gambling, but those two weeks had made me better and stronger. I could resist it now. 2 months later i was clean. I was no longer loosing any money and i was much happier as a person.

So, if you're trying to stop your gambling addiction. Think about all the times you close the website or walk out of the casino with no money in your pocket. Try the same thing as i did, or maybe other methods will work. Everything's worth it to stop gambling.

I have some issues with that too, doesn’t the loss and failure still bother you? I does still bother me...

Of course, it still bothers me today, thinking of all the money I could've used instead of thrown it in a garbage can. But at least it's a thing in the past and I can only make it better.

I experienced the same! And with a casino only 6 minutes from home, it was hard! Especially when you do win big. The Casino, they drag you in by offering free hotel rooms, free events. extra money to gamble with. I still struggle not to go in there. The thought of the money I lost that could have been used for the better still upsets me to this day! Great post and best wishes ro all those with this struggle!

That's the thing about casinos, as you said they offer you the "extra stuff" to make you gamble even more. It's really a dick move but they earn incredible amounts of money because of this. And i could imagine, living that close to a casino must be hard when you're trying to resist. And yes, sometimes you win really big and that's what makes you come back even tho you loose it all.
