I find most people who oppose the concept of UBI (universal basic income) either think they have no creativity so they fear being left out of the entrepreneur party, they value themselves based on how dedicated they are to their superiors, or they can't sleep at night knowing somebody is getting money for not working including them self. Fiat currency and fractional reserve banking are not real money in the first place. The US Treasury (a public institution) borrows money from the Federal Reserve (private bank) who pulls the money out of thin air and charges interest on it. So if you ask, "Where does the money come from for a UBI?" first ask yourself where the money comes from right now. Then consider that automation will do virtually all manual labor, farming, construction, shipping and retail in our lifetimes. Also, consider that getting rid of all entitlement programs and replacing them with a UBI would save the government money. Of course, there will be people who sit around and wait for their check in the mail and spend it on worthless items which create no wealth for themselves.. but there are plenty of creative people who can't start that small business they think about day and night because they have to spend all their time surviving. So you can live the minimum or you can thrive with a UBI. I personally would prefer the latter. If you still can't get over the idea that people will get "free money" consider a "doesn't do anything tax". Meaning workers, students, and volunteers pay fewer taxes than people who only receive a UBI and are mentally and physically able to work.
