I think most of us that have been on the platform for a year or more (or even just a couple of months) have had to face the struggle of trying to explain Steem and the Steemit platform to other people.

Most of us have just been trained too well to really let go of our preconceptions and attempt something new. It was a bit of a struggle for me, too (and you mentioned you went through a similar journey).

However, I must say I'm impressed with your ability to handle the questions and queries of your friends. I found myself facing questions like 'what's the catch?' and 'what is that?'

But something tells me that in the next few years some of those same people will be wishing that they'd listened to us a bit more closely.
