Good morning traders! If you haven't heard yet, then Weiss Ratings started rating cryptocurrencies as one of the first rating agencies in the world.

weiss ratings title.JPG

Who or what is Weiss Ratings? A research company with a solid history, started already in 1971 by Dr. Martin D Weiss, consulting banks and businesses and being active in the ratings business since 1987.

According to themselves:

Weiss Ratings is THE source for accurate, unbiased, and safest ratings that you can rely on to make sound, informed financial decisions. Weiss helps guide consumers, individual investors, and business professionals toward the best investment, banking and insurance options, always with an eye to avoiding unnecessary risks that could lead to financial losses.

And it's kind of a big deal. As an independent and respectable ratings agency, people have learned to turn to them, to research investment opportunities. Unfortunately for small Steemers, the paywall guarding the report might be a little overwhelming (they cost approx $900 a year, but run a discount currently for 50%, so the total is $468), but we get glimpses of the report on their page.

A Steemit post by @cryptoctopus points out that their website crashed upon the launch of this report, probably due to the massive traffic the interest created. It sees they still have some occasional troubles coping with this kind of traffic. Who said cryptos were dying?

But as you see, they have rated our beloved STEEM "B-", which takes us immediately to the top shelf. Bitcoin, on the other hand, got shelved behind STEEM with a "C+", citing network bottlenecks and transaction costs. Weiss also states, that as a currency overcomes it's issues, it's subject to be promptly upgraded.

Ethereum co-founder, Charles Hoskinson, has some things to say about that.

Well, we cannot blame him, as a ratings agency probably views the cryptocurrencies from a little different angle, than a person who has been involved in creating one of them. Some of the funnier sections of internet have already gone as far as giving ratings to the Weiss News agency themselves :)

So how does Weiss rate cryptos? According to themselves, they analyze thousands of dats points. Well...good for you. See their own explanation here. Let's hope STEEM does well on their future reports as well.

Let's end the post on funny note - rapper 50 Cent (0.000045 BTC) put an end to the rumors that he has gone bankrupt and is living a bum's life!

Apparently Fiddy obtained 700 Bitcoins in 2014 (BTC was worth below 700 at that time) by selling his album "Animal Ambition" on his Shopify store via Bitpay. Don't know if the man was a genius or was this just an experimental move, but here's the best part - 50 cent then forgot about his crypto holdings.

Apparently he has suddenly remembered his HODLORINGS and today his "bag's" worth is around 7.7 million dollars.

“Turns out 50 is a money genius,” TMZ meanwhile concludes.

Oh, @furious-one, you're so cool, how can i show my appreciation to you? Well, if you insist - send some PEPITO tokens to BTS: furious-one on the Bitshares DEX ;)

The B for Bitcoin. Problably some intern did the rating for BTC.

Bitcoin got a C+, not a B by the way.

the rating for steem is relative modest considering what its building, i think this is why its been on an upward trajectory of late, it may get even a better rating once the SMT come into play

That's a good point, @joendegz. I wonder if the upcoming SMTs were included in the assessment.

I think steem will grow irrespective of the BTC.And steemit will soon bypass Facebook ;)50 Cent - good dude everywhere has succeeded... Good post @furious-one !

Steem has a lot of value considering the speed of the blockchain it uses. I am not surprised that it wasn't rated higher as it is more of a speculation based upon success of blockchain social media but I do think the rating thus far is seemingly fair considering they have an outsider's perspective.

That's true, but maybe we need an outsiders perspective as they as probbaly more unbiased. They might not be familiar with all nuances though, but perhaps they'll be objective to the other cryptos as well.

lol, what a great story. 5o cent forgot about his bitcoin stash. lol too funny! good for him, iget happy when i find a dollar in laundry clothes. 700 bitcoins is crazy

Wow celebs can also forget! I believe this could have some possitive effects on the cryptocurrency prices and I also believe that connecting the word Bitcoin to a celebrity is an adverticement that will bring in more new traders.

It is great that steem going high in rating. It is because steem is not only cryptocurrency. Its blockchain back by writers, bloggers, artist, musician and great engineers behind it. Steem has its great community which pulled the value of steem to the moon very soon .

Finally some good news! I hope we will soon see a little more stability again. Bad feeling thinking the whole thing is breaking together.

Haha, very funny how someone can forget about having money and be named a "money genius" by the media. I would probably be a lot more impressed if he had actually researched Bitcoin back then and decided to hodl it for such a long time.

Anyway, thanks for this post, @furious-one. I've been reading about the Weiss rating, but this is the first time I'm reading about what the agency actually is (I assumed they did analyses of stocks obviously), and I didn't know that they were actually a big deal. I wonder if this is one of the reasons why the Steem price has increased by so much during the last 24 hours?

Best regards from @valth

It seems that this indeed was the cause of the price being supported

Alright, thanks for taking the time to answer my question, @furious-one. I'm excited to see if it will keep increasing in value in the coming days because of this as well.

Very interesting article, my dear friend!
I very much hope that Weiss will respond well to the STEEM. This will be very good news for STEEM and for us all)))

Ahaha ... 50 Сent an experienced investor))) He knew what currency to sell his albums))) This is very funny! I have no doubt that at his house there are several farms for mining.

Thank you for the article, @furious-one!

Thank you so much!

Saw steem up over 85% for the past 7 days. Hope we see a boom like LTC and EOS did.

how do you feel about bitcoin being banned in some countries?

Hi! There are only few countries that completely ban bitcoin; such as Bolivia, Thailand and Bangladesh. Russia and Ecuador banned cryptocurrencies but they have their own digital currencies (CryptoRuble for Russia) backed by their government. Other countries like China and India imposes cryptocurrency usage ban on banks and crypto mining; however, crypto trading is still legal in these countries. In the past months, there are rumors that China and South Korea will completely ban cryptocurrency trading, but as you can see it now, it looks like they have retracted all their plans to ban it but impose regulations instead. Analyzing the news and these information, it looks like that governments are also positive in the usage of the cryptocurrency; however, they want to impose regulations and taxes to ensure that they will gain a portion of your earning and at the same time they can see and control the usage of the cryptocurrencies. Some things that make the government worry are the illegal applications and money laundering, which will be controlled by the regulations to be imposed. So, for me, I guess cryptocurrencies has a bright future 😁.

I... I don't feel anything :)

yes positive thing.

Still waiting for bitcoins to be a legal currency in the Philippines :'(

Hi there! bitcoin is legal currency in the Philippines. There are even bitcoin ATM machines in Makati (Source: https://coinatmradar.com/country/169/bitcoin-atm-philippines/). Maybe you mean legal tender? :)

thanks for sharing.

in indonesia it is prohibited

Thanks for the information

Wow I never would have guessed that 50 cent would have found some old bitcoin. Sounds so unlikely.

Great news. Never knew 50 cent had an idea on bitcoin☺ and with the way its going bitcoin will get an up value soon just as statistics has projected. And with this certified back up Point ,day-by-day,i am convinced bitcoin is bouncing back to the top now 50 cent is involved because he got a business IQ too.

Hey @furious-one,
