Money Saving Hacks // How I Spend Almost Nothing on Clothing, but still have a Fresh Style

in #money7 years ago

Hello Friends,

I’ve got another money saving hack to share with you today! This one might surprise you because I LOVE fashion… but I actually spend hardly any money on clothing.

Now just to warn you up front, many of my tips in this vlog include buying things second hand… so if you aren’t into that – you may not get a ton out of this video.

Vlog Notes

In this Vlog I give some tips on where to purchase basic items that are quality, but affordable – and how to layer on fun and “thrifty” finds to compliment your unique style.

I also discuss “seasonal cycling” and how I actually re-sell items to fund new purchases.

Ideas for versatile pieces and ways to change up your look on a budget.

How to host clothing swaps with your most fashionable friends to switch out your clothing... at no cost!

Spots to find great deals for clothing online… and a few more tips!

Clothing is one of those areas that it is sooo easy to spend money – and before you know it, your trip the mall cost hundreds of dollars. Now I will say, that everyone has their areas they like to splurge, and clothing might be that for you. For me though, I actually enjoy the “thrill of the hunt” with finding good deals on items I love. Not to mention the re-sale value on an item of clothing is horrible… so purchasing full priced clothing is usually something I am going to stay away from.

I hope you guys (or should I say mostly gals?) enjoyed this money saving tip! I used to spend a lot of money on my style and now I actually enjoy my fashion choices even more, and I’ve been able to save a lot of money on an annual basis.

Where do you land on the clothing spectrum? Is it an area you like to treat yourself, or do you prefer to live the thrifty life? Let me know if you guys have any awesome money saving hacks around clothing that I didn’t mention!

xo, Lea

I'm totally the same way. I actually only have 1 dtube t-shirt, 1 dtube polo, 1 jacket, 1 black shirt, 1 pair of pants. And one pair of sunglasses. And one pair of socks. Two pairs of socks.

Hahah Man you are ALL IN!! Dtube has even taken over your wardrobe! 😂

You are always so clever!

Hey, question. I noticed you and a few other great steemians are getting upvoted by dtube, which trends you fairly well. How do you make that happen? Is it just part of hoping you get noticed, or is there anything you could suggest? Also, where would you say the majority of your initial momentum came from. Is it the openmic entries you did, or did someone catch you on your vids? Or posts?

I'd like to do what you do. I may have a little more time to dedicate to this, and have seen how successful you are. And I think yours is well-deserved. You do a lot of things well. Your posts are classy and intelligent, your curation is generous, your networking is great, and your blockchain knowledge seems to grow with every passing month.

I'd like to post like you do, and I haven't had the time to do it. I'm a mom of three who has been working full time. But I have some time now and want to know what you would recommend doing first....my strengths are in writing, music, videos, contest, and educating others in the steemit blockchain.

I have some similar aptitudes as yours. This is why I'm bugging you and not someone else. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. :0)

Aww your comment put a huge smile on my face!! You are such a rockstar and I have NO doubt you could kill it here on Dtube. I have a lot of things to say on your various questions... I’m in the middle of a few things right now, but I’ll put together a response and reply back again later today! Ps... are you on Steemit chat? Maybe we should move the convo over there?

Yes, I am. I'll go hit you up there. Thanks for taking the time. I know you have a lot of projects right now. I REALLY liked your recent "hunters v. farmers" post. I was thinking of doing something along those lines as well, only with a different analogy, and expanding a little.

I also really love your saving money blogs. The thing is, you're so articulate and well spoken for someone who seems to be fairly young. It's impressive. You really know how to speak to your audience. I was definitely not that well-spoken at your age. :0) But I'm excited to get some things going. So I'll go meet you in chat.

Aww thanks for the kind words my friend! It means a lot to me. I will say that making videos almost everyday has really helped me improve. I definitely had more filler words/sounded more nervous in the beginning! It’s all a journey. 😊

I just popped into Steemit chat and dropped my responses to your questions! 😊 I’m looking forward to chatting with you about Dtube stuff!

Yeah, it seems like you don't even miss a beat on these. It's encouraging to know you fumbled in the beginning too. I appreciated your chat. I will absolutely take it to heart. I think you should do a video challenge--talk about how you vlogged every day for 4 months, and encourage others to do so for a week or something, then reward the winner. Give tips and tricks of the trade.

Just a thought. You probably have a lot of other projects lined up already....but maybe something to let people know what kind of work it takes to get consistent votes and followers. People who succeed often have this image of "well they got lucky because they're ______ " so I won't have the same success.

This might show it's attainable to more than most.

Oh my gosh... that is a BRILLIANT idea!! Ill have to think about how exactly I want to structure it... but I definitely want to do some kind of challenge like that. I’ll be sure to credit you for the idea!

No need to credit me. You're the one who is giving me all the great ideas! But I think you ought to let people know how hard you work at this. I think it would go along very nicely with your hunter v. farmer vlog. That makes a perfect segue to go more into depth about what you DO do on here. If I were you, I'd lay it out. Like with a white board and a chart and everything. Or some kind of visual. I dunno.

You are so natural on here, some users get the impression success comes easy to those that are doing well. I know that's not the case. But I had no idea you were working full time, and posting vlogs on dtube DAILY, along with all the other posts and contests you do. It's easy for people to judge and think just because you're pretty and young, you just get votes. I've seen the stupid comments. They're short-sighted.

WRONG!!! There are PA-LENTY of pretty women on here who get squat because they're doing squat. It has nothing to do with being pretty....well, maybe a teensy bit. And I say capitalize on your assets.

But we all know, the success comes from various things you're doing to keep things going. That's what people need to hear. Once I get going on my vids, maybe we can collab, cuz I think we cover a lot of the same content similarly. But for now, I seriously think you're wielding a sword here that could slice through a lot of nonsense.

Anyway, that's my two cents.

I am really not into fashion. Beside work wear, I am usually wearing bermuda, T-shirt and sandals whenever I go out. Comfort is more important for me. I can wear without changing the clothes in my wardrobe for many years. I usually need to buy new ones when my clothes are already worn out. Then I may just spend a few hundred dollars to buy new ones. You are definitely a wise woman that you can stay fashionable yet hardly spend a cent. Great sharing for those who spent too much to look good when you achieve the same or even better outcomes without spending much.

Haha you sound like my boyfriend. He’s had the same wardrobe for years too. It literally blows my mind how many of my friends spend hundreds of dollars every month on clothing. It is just really unecessary in my opinion.

Thanks I'm definitely going to try the seasonal recycling tip. I never thought about that.

I’m so glad you found it helpful! That is probably the tip I use the most often. 😊

I enjoyed reading this ! :) Plus, your blog here seems super positive and energetic, definitely will become your follower :)

I think u touched all the points... Great... Meanwhile um a guy, so not more into it haha..

@coruscate No doubt fashion is a part of life and you are living a great life with your styles thanks for sharing video on dtube you always come with a great video keep it up I wish you all the besy

Hi coruscate, greetings from NIGERIA.
I love fashion a whole lot and it's good to see someone like you who also loves fashion.
In my country we don't do most of the stuffs you mentioned.
But here they sell second hand clothes in the market and they have particular days for that and that is where I buy most of my clothes from.
We also have online stores where we can get clothes from and i only shop from there when they are on sales, isn't that awesome.
I also like to recycle some of my clothes if you know what i mean, and it's nice to see them turn out great.
Thanks for these tips though.
Cheers💜
