Today was pretty pathetic for the US stock market. Worst day in 8 months. Markets are on the brink of a major correction/collapse. Is this the beginning of a financial Apocalypse?
I find it interesting how in Modern America, we have taken on this narrative of our world that there will be some catastrophic end with cataclysmic proportions. This idea is perpetuated in the books we read, and has found it's way into most modern day movies. In his book "Apocalyptic Fever: End-Time Prophecies in Modern America" Richard G. Kyle takes on the task of navigating this strange world we live in as one who "had drunk deeply at the fountains of dispensational premillennialism". Through his own life experiences Richard brings to life and juxtaposes the religious prophets of the west and the secular prophets pertaining to some end-times event. Both worldviews serve a purpose for it's intended audience. Today's market "correction" is feeding into yet again more global financial disaster discussions. Where do you stand?
I think the second longest bull run ever, coupled with all time market highs and the retail apocalypse are signs for sure! Just never know when the bubbles will pop, just sure they will. Not to mention global tensions, petroleum dollar failing...
Maybe I'm a glass is half empty kinda guy.
