The Lenovo Z5 shows us the promises (and unknowns) of a mobile without frames

My phone has fewer frames than yours. That is one of the great battles of the segment of smartphones, and in recent times we are seeing how the manufacturers are managed in one and a thousand ways to achieve mobile phones with more and more advantageous fronts.

All of them could bite the dust soon, because the Lenovo Z5 is falling, and if the official concept images shown by this manufacturer are true, we have a mobile with about 95% of front area exploited by the screen. A technical marvel that yes, also raises several important questions.

A fantastic design but that raises important questions

The image has been shared by Chang Cheng, director of the company, in the Weibo social network in China. It is not therefore a concept from a designer, but for all purposes this seems to be the final design of this terminal.

That screen with hardly any frames that this mobile phone talks about would leave behind competitors like the Essential PH-1, which with its 84.9% screen ratio compared to the front area is the one that had taken advantage of this trend so far.

The idea is a priori fantastic: more screen in the same space, which is what has been achieved with these new designs. However, there are shadows in that conception. Where will the front camera be? Where will the ambient and proximity light sensors be? Where will the speakers be?

The Z5 may have a folding or retractable front camera as shown by the striking Vivo Apex, and may also place both the speaker and those sensors behind the screen as with the Mi Mix, but it will certainly be interesting to see how Lenovo solves those facets both at the design level and at the operational level.

Until it is presented - there are no official data on this, but some point to that launch in mid-June - we can not know for sure, but this seems the logical step in that evolution of mobile phones. That, of course, if indeed they manage to solve issues as crucial as those indicated.
