Both my son and I heard Laurel. He's 8 and so it is not an age thing or a male/female thing. I heard it had something to do with pitch and you can change the frequency so that everyone hears laurel. Maybe it is the speed the brain processes sound that determines what is heard.
On another front, you were listening to CBC ... where are you from. I am in Vancouver:)
Yes it doesn't seem to be connected to gender. I'm originally from Ontario, have lived for many years in Switzerland and I have family in Vancouver, Victoria and the BC interior!
Switzerland ... that sound lovely. I have a never been but imagine parts are very similar to our rockies:) You must miss the ocean ... though ... from time to time:)
