Well, I thought I preferred leaving putting things in writing out of it wherever possible. But I am now leaning towards the necessity of both in writing and reviewed by a lawyer :-)
I heard "Yammy", not "Yanny, and definitely not Laurel. So you and your son are obviously wrong :-)
However I did hear "Laurel" when the pitch was up 30% (Do you and your son go through life with your pitches up 30% ?)

That's pretty presumptuous of you to assume that there is a "correct" answer. In my world, the "correct" answer would be what I heard. I would live my life according to what I heard, not what you say that you said. Therefore, its got to be in writing LOL
I totally agree (and that is pretty rare) 'the "correct" answer would be what I heard'. I teach business English to Chinese students and I am forever telling them that it is not what you say which ultimately matters, but what the other person hears. The message being - do not assume that the listeners understanding matches your desired message.
