In my previous post, I talked about how important a deceive moment can be, the moment where you’re going to choose between your habits or doing nothing and this can go a long way in determining how you’re going to spend the rest of your day or night go above that. Decisive moments can be significant but another important thing you must consider when you are trying to create a habit is to make it easy, this is where most people get it wrong. I see a lot of failures in the gym because people are trying to be at the level they are not consistently. It is not always their fault, It is because they lack the orientation of building a long-lasting habit.
The gym is one place where everybody makes the mistake of going too hard on themselves and just because you see another person carrying a certain weight that looks easy doesn’t mean you can take it too. You must put your ego aside so that you won’t get injured but most people try to be what they are not and they end up not coming to the gym again because they can’t keep up with how hard the gym is. Your new habit shouldn’t be very difficult, It is something you should be able to do consistently. When you’re creating a new habit, the first thing you will struggle with is the decisive moment and if the new habit is too difficult, you might not be able to win over the decisive moment and in the long run, you will end up not going to the gym or stopping the new habits.
Two minutes man
The two-minute rule is a crucial piece in creating a new habit. All you have to do is to spend two minutes on your new habit every day and the goal is to make your habit easy enough for you to be able to do it consistently. Two minutes may seem like nothing but it is a lot when creating a new habit involved and this is one of the easiest ways you can automate your new habit because it is simple enough for you to do on the days you don’t feel like doing anything. The goal is not to go hard or let the excitement of doing new things take over because if this happens you end up stopping and you may not be able to go back to it again, the goal is for you to build consistency and fall in love with your new habit.
The main reason why people struggle to create a new habit is that they are trying to create a perfect habit from the beginning. They put extra hours, and extra time into their new habit but at the end of the day, it is not sustainable because they have not been able to master the true power of consistency. They have not won over the decisive moment. In the beginning, two minutes might make you seem as if you’re not doing enough but when you have done it too many times it helps you to create the level of consistency you want, you can now begin to spend extra time with your new habit. What you must remember is to start easy and take it up to the difficult level.

Framing it that way, decisive moments are like make or break moments of whether one will stick to a habit or not. Once enough momentum is accomplished, making the right decision is always less hard.
