I recently expanded my Rig with a ZOTAC GTX 1070 Mini, I was actually looking for the MSI version but it was sold out, then the seller told me he could get me an ASUS, I went down the shop and he actually had a ZOTAC. Because I was already there and I because really wanted a 1070, I just took it and asked him for a discount.
The first thing I thought when I unboxed it was “ok, this doesn’t look so bad”. Don’t get me wrong, it is not up there with the MSI in regards of design but I was expecting a lot uglier than this…
I use MSI Afterburner to overclock my cards, here is the current settings I have for the Zotac 1070 are:
• Power Limit: 80%
• Temp Limit: 65 oC
• Core Clock: 99
• Memory Clock: 700
Hashrate
Ethash: 31 Mh/s
Equihash: 450 H/s
Power Consumption: 130W
One thing I was pleased about was the power consumption, I was told that a 1070 can pull up to 170w from wall, but I believe that they have improved this on the “mini” version.
However, the card does have two weaknesses in my eyes (and ears!):
1.- The heat: they are up to 20% hotter than the MSI version, I have it working at 64C with a 70% fan speed, the same MSI version can do the same at 52C.
2.- The noise, it is a lot louder than the MSI or the Gigabyte versions, and if you push up the fan to anything above 80% it sounds like a ceiling fan in a cheap hotel.
Overall, if you can get this card for anything below 400 USD, it is a good buy.
I’m looking into mining here in NYC but I find it to be expensive because the fact that electricity is so expensive here . But trying to figure out a cheaper way around it
Yes, it all depends on electricity... some countries have crazy high rates!
Same here! I heard that it is profitable here in NYC especially if you mine the less popular altcoins and Hodl them. Almost got my shopping list ready. Are you still thinking of starting?
This looks so good, I always wanted to mine, but I am not very sure I will be able to cover my investment :)
It all depends on your electricity cost I guess, in South America is pretty cheap... you can use a calculator such as this to see if its worth it : https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/calculator/etc
@chitty,
We (I and few of my friends) already setup a mining rig with the RX 580 Sapphire! We used https://whattomine.com/ get the idea of what currency we should mine by using it! It says ETH or ETC! So we started with ETC and with current price hike just imagine what kind of feeling we got now :D
Congratz dude, now it's crypto time, nice to see you started mining as well!
We are using 6 RX 580 Sapphire VGAs now and hope to install a new mining rig soon with the same volume! Wish you a great of luck friend! If you can use Solar power, then there will be no electricity cost as well!
Cheers~
Cool man, I would like to see some pics of your rig!
Those are RX 580 Sapphire! It has more performance than GTX! So, we used it!
Yes I agree but those cards consume more power than gtx
Are those 4 or 8 GB ?
31 Mh / s starts to be interresting with 5 cards x)
I like your post ! Keep publishing interesting articles. If you wish, you can check my posts @mike26
I did not do the work of this machine properly and say a little
need some more good invention which are environment friendly and less power consuming....good post buy the way
wish i know a lil more about mining, and in Africa we have Energy issues so it looks enticing but undo-able here
👍🏻
Have you tried renewing the heat sink paste ?
thats like a good info..
thanks for sharing
have a nice day...
@chitty - Sir mining is not very profitable in my country, due to high cost of electricity.... Solar systems are too costly too Sir.... I wish to hear your next update about this mining rig Sir... Congratulations for your new venture....
