Probably the best-selling game ever
More than 176 million copies of Minecraft have been sold worldwide.
Microsoft and developer Mojang announced this last week to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the game. Minecraft, in which players can mine blocks and subsequently build their own buildings, is pretty much available on every platform: from the previous and current generation of consoles, to PCs and smartphones.
As a result, Minecraft is probably the best-selling game ever. This is difficult to determine precisely, because Tetris is the record holder with an estimated 170 million copies sold (according to Wikipedia), but this is not completely certain.
Microsoft unveiled Minecraft Earth last week. The game is similar to Pokémon Go, but goes a step further by letting users build things in an AR world. The game also includes various monsters that players can collect for their structures and tap blocks and crates to collect resources. Minecraft Earth is released free-to-play for iOS and Android. An exact release date has not yet been announced.
