
I just read a post by @exyle in which he writes about how getting a discount on purchases is like earning money. This is a different way to look at discounts, but it makes “cents” 🤣 and probably “dollars” 😉
The article also talks about a very human tendency to be reluctant to ask for discount and be afraid that the salespeople will say no or be offended. This part of the article reminded me of something my dad use to say when I was reluctant to ask for something. He said “They can only say NO and NO only hurts a few seconds, but YES can make you feel good the rest of the day.😊

I always saw it more as a marketing frame. In reality you don't earn money when you get a discount. You only save money if you were going to buy it anyway AND get a discount on that.
True. It’s a marketing ploy to get you in the store, when your there because of the discount to buy stuff you don’t need. But as you said if it’s money you were going to spend for a necessity like a bed or table getting a little discount is nice.
