Hi venerable Steemians!
Have you ever stood to wonder about the people in your every day life and how the relationship between you and them affects your identity and mindset? Well, today might be as good as any other day to once again take a look at those with whom you share your life!
Bear with me as I make this case; we interact with a lot of people in different stages of our life. Sometimes you begin a journey with someone whose approach and worldview fills you with positive energy. Sometimes you befriend someone who is drowned in a world of hopelessness. It is not strange to have felt these surges of energy from the people who we meet or hang out with on a regular basis.
The influence that these people have in our lives is much more pivotal than we ever care to admit. Humans find and understand their identity in the reflection of those who surround them. Their mirror is what gives us a sense of belonging, and through that belonging we begin to understand who we are and what we desire.
So, what you need to essentially ask yourself is: How are the people in your life leaving you with reflections of what makes you who you are? Your future rests on those with whom you interact, for indeed their mere presence will influence you in ways you do not fully comprehend. It can be proven that every distinct word, every quiet whisper, every small action, and every single move of you and those around you can influence your mind and your worldview.
In the words of Jim Rohn, one of the greatest motivational speakers of our time, ‘You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.’
If you want to experience a great life, you need to surround yourself with things that contribute to this greatness. If you want to fly like an eagle, you will need to spend time with eagles, and not other birds of different nature and caliber. In order to become a star in the night sky, you need to rise and find a place amongst these beings of light, and have the tolerance of being away from all those things and all those people who would seduce you into despair or accepting things that you would otherwise forsake.
If we have learned even one thing for a hundred percent in this life, it is the fact that nothing of value will ever grace your life unless you decide to accept the idea that everything comes with a price, and the world extracts that price, one way or another. It is difficult to let go of those people that have a harmful impact on the way you live and the way you think. Trust me, no one understands the effort better than I do. But know this; it is not about acquaintances, connections, relationships or cheap thrills of this nature… THIS IS YOUR LIFE!
What do you know, this decision might actually end up helping those people! When you become a star in the sky, you inspire other people to follow you and walk down the path that you have set before their eyes. You will then realize that you have a community of people who respect and value individual determination towards something more than what their previous reality had given them.
So, from now on, be careful of the people in your inner circle. Be wary of the impact that they might have on you in the long term. Be cautious of how you might begin to see yourself in the reflection of their identities. You may have to decide to leave some of them behind, and even though that is a difficult choice, it is a necessary one if you are really willing to make your destiny and become what you have always wanted to. Even now, your future can be seen in the eyes of those closest to you.

I love the line "we are the average of our 5 closest friends." It is so true. I am in my 60's and have noticed many people my age have become very angry. I made a conscious decision to fire them. You should not make room in your life for angry people. They will infect your life with their rage. As a result, I find myself hanging out with people much younger than myself. I just made a movie short and everyone involved with the exception of 2 people was a millennial. Their positive outlook and enthusiasm was awesome. I wish I had a cure to prevent my old friends from succumbing to constant anger and condemnation of the younger generation. I think they rock.
I couldn’t say better ... I know exactly what you want to say. I was once surrounded by so many "friends" and I was convinced that these friendships would last forever. Then we moved to another country and you’re still trying to maintain the friendship fore some time but if the effort is not mutual, what’s the point? Although we live only a good hour away, can say that only 30% of so many friends are left. And they are those who have been accompanying me trough my whole life. And my husband of course and he is and always be my best friend. I am who I am because of them... Maybe we don’t see or hear each other everyday but they are here when I need them and that’s important...I did mention it in my posts that I couldn’t make it without there support and positive energy. Your post is really inspirring an those are the things I've been dealing with in recent years and then hit me...You will ALWAYS know when you’re surrounded with negativity and you can always walk away ! I used to have lots o friends but there was one a time that I made a mistake and found out that I have no friends. What I have back then was my family. Friendship should start at the family. I have few friends now, who had become part of the family.
Jeah I know, I was always convinced friends are more then family but with the time that changed. And now come the family first and my 5 best friends that are with me for 18 years now and that’s the true friendship :)

I had been told this but a la venezolana some years ago, after my separation and subsequent divorce.
A friend of mine advised me to just go. Leave the town, the country even, for my own sake. I did not understand it then, I could not accept it. Saw it as selfish and cold-hearted. After all, I would be leaving my two daughters behind.
Time proved my friend right. A lot has happened since and I have grown more embittered and desperate in a country that every day threatens to suck every ounce of energy you may have. We surround ourselves with people who far from helping are also in need of help. We become some sort of AA ("Apathetic Anonymous"), although our apathy is quite noticeable.
My ruin has also translated into my daughters'. My negativity has become theirs.
That can still be changed. I am working on it, but it has become way more difficult now.
I Understand! But don't give up. Come together with us in this community and your Mindset will be reprogram for success. You are Welcome.
@chbartist, Absolutely true words, if we want to be something then we should stay where people have the positive mindset and hold the great thoughts because in this way we will share the positive and great energy and inturn this energy will going to convert into the positive actions and we can pursue our goals and grow. In my opinion many people can neglect it that we don't have much affect of others but actually completely opposite is the truth.

When I was a child my dad told me that I had to spend time with people who were better than me in a certain skill. In my case as I am a musician, I always told myself that I had to spend time with musicians who were better than me, because that way I can advance in my things and I can also learn other positive things.
It's like that saying of Tell me who you're with and I'll tell you who you are.

We are more impressed with the objects around us.Including people around us.His reflection can clearly be seen in our behavior.We can not do our own evaluation. The one who remains closest to us can evaluate our good and bad deeds correctly.That is why we can say that in the eyes of those who are closest to us, we can see our future that we are moving in the right direction or moving in the wrong direction.regards
This is actually pretty eye-opening for me as I have continued to surround myself with those that have gotten me this far but have lately found myself somewhat stuck on my next big step and I think it is related to these thoughts. I guess that is why I am finding myself spending more time within the Steem community and enjoying the engagement as it feels that this could be the next phase for me rather than the traditional corporate life. It is just a matter of fact to stop living our lives like chickens and live like the eagles that we all are meant to be..:)
I have always thought about that ... if you are with positive people you will be surrounded by good thoughts and you will shine ... but when you are surrounded by negative people ... however positive you may be ... sooner or later they will infect you negativity ... in my last job I was surrounded by very negative people, very pessimistic and I tried to advise them and convey positivity, but there came a time when I had to decide to get away from those people, because I felt a little negative .... I reacted to time and I left the negative circle and everything in me returned to normal. :)
So I always try to advise people but if they decide to continue in negativity I simply follow my path ...

I am glad to be with you on this journey, I once found myself in a circle of an indigenous society in Nigeria called ogboni , It was so because my father was a member and their philosophy is to take advantage of others pain to gain. I couldn't fit in properly because my father taught me the opposite of what he was doing while growing up. To cut the long story short, When he passed away, they expected me to continue in my farther footstep, but i declined and told them that i was not interested,
I stopped attending their public function and their gatherings and meeting,It was lonely and It was tough and i was denied a lot of opportunities to earn an income. that was the price i had to pay.
I also withdrew from a lot of childhood friends because their parents were equally members, and they carried on . it seemed that everyone i ever knew was part of the system. But staying away away from them made me to start thinking of ways i can improve my genuinely without taking advantage of others.
In summary, like the saying goes" show me your friends and i will tell you who you are".
I was able to break away and i am so grateful to find myself in this community, It give me a new outlook to life and reality in general.

If I wanna be a good steemian I got a be devoted myself fully, if wanna be doctor, if wanna be a robber got a be member of it, now the question is who will be the top in the group, everyone eventually will want to be top but among all these only one will be top. People surrounding is important part. If we are surrounded by good people then we learn a lot through their experiences. There was a time when i had bigger group of friends and i tell you that it was the wonderful time of my life. Now i have moved to another country and here have very few friends. I miss all my friends a lot. Though many of them are connected with me thru Phone and social media channels but that's just an alternate.
Even now i learn a lot everyday from the people around me at workplace and my apartment. It's easy to say that we must keep on moving in life but doing it is not easy but that's the rule of life. We have to leave one to gey another. Have a great day friend @chbartist

There are essentially two things that will make you wise: the books you read and the people you know.All these circumstances can play for or against one, be an engine that propels our life or an anchor that sinks it. Inspire or depress Nourishes or poisons Obviously there are also neutral environments, but for that same reason we have to avoid them as much as those that harm us. It is not possible to do without the environments, but to choose them carefully taking into account their effects
I met a guy while on a boat to Surigao. He is a Norwegian and when asked where he came from, he said earth, and that started the whole thing. That was a 4-hour trip on a boat and majority of that time were spent chatting.
He started on telling me how stupid humanity is. It's a bit strong words but he has points. People are trying to be somebody because that's what he sees around them. Trying to acquire things which makes them feel complete because if they could not, they are useless.
