Knowledge is Power; Why You Should Dedicate Time to Reading Every Day...

in #mindset6 years ago

Greetings, fellow Steemians!

“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” Says Benjamin Franklin, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States of America. For if there can only be one pursuit in life that can be deemed worthwhile, it is the greatest of them all; the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom.

image3.jpg
img src

The utilization of the blessings that this world has to offer directly correlates with one’s general knowledge of the rules that govern the universe and how each and every thread connects to the great complicated web of existence.
Living a life in this world is a perplexed maze of opportunities and potentials.

Successful people in life are those who know the underlying schematic of this complex maze. Opportunities are not inherently programmed into this creation. People make their own opportunities, and in order to do that, one must be well aware of the potential that this infinite web of being has to offer.

Simply put, the more you know, the better you will perform in every aspect of life. Knowledge is the pinnacle of the human endeavor to improve and open the gates of salvation and tranquility to life on a large scale.

Reading books is the standard practice for gaining knowledge and wisdom. Books may have once been an important part of many cultures from around the globe, but with the advent of internet and its growth into popularity, we could argue that reading is not a widespread practice or even a pastime any more.

Our cultural inclination towards instant gratification and pleasure has left a terrible wound on the face of education and general wisdom of the young generation. Unlike many modern indulgences of technology that add nothing to your value as a human being, reading has proven to be an astonishingly rewarding practice.

Apart from knowledge and wisdoms, the practice of reading books can be beneficial to you on several levels of consciousness and subconsciousness. I am going to explain some of these benefits in the next section of this blog post.

image4.jpg
img src

One of the first and foremost benefits of reading is the mental stimulation that comes with it. Just like the rest of the organs and muscles in our body, our brain needs practice and care to stay in good health and shape. Reading can easily take care of that and even stimulate your brain wires to the point of increasing intelligence and creativity.

Eloquence is another one of the perks of reading as a daily practice. When you are constantly reading, the domain of your vocabulary expands and you will speak with more dignity and decorum. As a result, the world around you will take you more seriously. The difference between the speech of an educated man and an uneducated one is more transparent than the difference of night and day.

Books are worlds within words. When you open a book to read, fiction or nonfiction, that book will take you out of the real world and put you in an imaginary world full of new wonders to discover.

People have used books as a form of escapism for as long as anyone can remember, and it is also worth mentioning that through this escapist nature of this phenomenon, you will feel less stressed if you bring this practice and habit to your daily routine, specially if you are struggling with social anxiety and all the other troubles that come with it.

image1.jpg
img src

But gaining knowledge, or reading books, much like anything else in our daily routine, is a habit that needs practice and consistency. If you truly believe in the value of improving your knowledge and wisdom, and want to implement this particularly beneficial habit in your life, you need to practice it slowly and with consistency.

It can be wearisome and difficult at first, but what habit isn’t? You can try to look at it not necessarily as a practice of self-improvement, but as an activity that can bring you much joy and delight in the long-term.

Important Note!

I have been working very hard on this blog since the beginning. I have a very busy life but I am giving my best and believe me I have shared experiences that I have been coaching thousands of people and I know that the change of the Mindset should be daily. I am already grateful to see you giving upvotes to each other and you can see this with the fact that many already have 8, 9, 10 upvotes. But I'm sure that with the effort of all of us we will see a community with, 40, 50, 80 upvotes and for that everyone should get engaged so we can make it come true. I believe and we can! Resteem...

***Remember Community: Please, if you commented and upvote on a new post I did, please always go back to the previous one because if someone in the community commented lastly because of time zone differences it will be without your upvote and that would not be fair.

You all know the goal! We can reach: 50+ Upvotes each others!

Attention!!!

I'm reading all the meaningful comments from the posts.

I am here making a list of all of you who have helped build this community by voting for each other who write meaningful comments and soon I will respond to everyone with comment and thank you all because I can already see this spirit being built in this Positive Mindset community and help between all of you.

You will receive my upvote in all material and brief comments I will do this in all the posts I am following very closely and I can see what the people who are generous and contribute to this legacy that I am trying to build with all of you can become reality in a short time.

AND

First of all, I would like to thank all of you, who are the most active and proactive in this community, showing your generosity and always with meaningful comments. From now on I will always make a list of these incredible people who have helped to expand our goal of growing ever more.

And if you are not on this list, please, after making your comment, write in that comment: Include my profile in the list, because I do or want to be part of all this with all of you!

But I ask that if you are new around here you read many of the previous posts because they make it clear that we are building a community with respect among all, generosity and this blog is for those who really want to start moving their Mindset to positive and moreover be part of the growth of all of us who contribute to this blog. Please do not ask to include you in the list if you are just wanting votes or speculating because we want here people genuinely attuned to growth and good attitudes and as I have always said with Respect as the basis of all, generosity and positivity!

Remember the rules. First leave your comment meaningful and then leave your message that you want to be included in this comment. Everyone is welcome and I hope this list grows exponentially because this will be a reflection of everyone's growth. I really do not want to be able to update the list of so many people that can be included in it. Let's go together towards the 50+ upvotes to recognize the efforts of those who dedicate their time so that we can become stronger and leave a legacy of growth in our lives and in the lives of others!

ABOUT OUR LIST!!! WE NEED GROW THIS LIST! LET'S GO TOGETHER IN THIS COMMUNITY - RESTEEM!

I'm not going to put this list in all the posts because I do not quite understand why, but some people did not like me to tag them even though this list is a list of acknowledgment and thanks from the people I've observed being the ones who write meaningful comments , are generous voting for each other and contribute more to this family we are building here. So stay tuned to the text below and in the next posts.

Great and important post!
If I may add, reading also develops the emotional intelligence and it is very important practice that helps you understand the emotional aspect of situations in life too.

When it comes to reading topics that I like, I love reading and not stopping ... I love learning new things and reading is the best way, and as you mention it, reading nourishes vocabulary, is one of the best techniques to enrich your vocabulary, so reading daily is a benefit for the human being.

One of the things that I love is reading, my favorite book is the bible, because I believe that it contains all the wisdom and divine revelation, it is like a guide for our daily life, the one with the information has the power , every day should be an opportunity to enrich our knowledge, there are many books that help us to acculturate ourselves in diverse subjects. Also, others that teach us of the experiences of others, says the biblical that the wise man sees the evil and moves away, but the fool says he needs to learn from his own mistakes. In many ways and in many ways, knowledge is a powerful tool, so much that thanks to information, empires have been conquered, dictators have been overthrown, dreams have been crystallized and broken. hearts; Information applied as knowledge can be the most powerful weapon ever created by human beings.
These are some of the benefits of reading:
Increase your vocabulary
It's a good workout for the brain.
You create healthy sleep patterns.
You decrease the risk of Alzheimer's.
Increase the capacity for concentration and attention.
Improve memory.
Reduce stress

The bible is our life manual !!! There we can find all the knowledge to which God refers so that his people do not perish ...

Great post friend
In the time we invest in acquiring knowledge, we always have the benefit in the future.
Continuing when you start reading can be cumbersome, but do not keep away. The continuation of the movement will one day bring you to the point where you will experience deeper thinking in your knowledge... Thank you friend @chbartist

I´m so agree with you. I used to love reading a lot, but when I started at the university I left my hobbie aside a little bit, so I took a reading challenge this year and I´ve been enjoying it so much that I´m going to continue with this for a long time. I´m looking for websites where I can find good books, let me know if you have one. =)

Books are great sources of knowledge because they contain the condensed and organized ideas of people throughout history and their work.

I try to read 20 pages per day, before breakfast. This one single rule has helped me to read more vastly and consistently. It's not my idea, credit goes to to James Clear.

Great post! I have enjoyed it.

well, knowledge is truly a resplendent partner in our lives....and of course, what better way to attain it than reading those beautiful books.....but to me, not just knowledge but also experience matters....you know knowledge is like fragments of a puzzle.. and experience is actually the one which assists you to realize how to joint those little fragments & thus solve that puzzle......I hope I helped you understand the fact....and have a beautiful day...love from @muhtasim-zawad

I love reading especially the book that transformed my life - The Living Word which is my weapon and armor, and my daily bread.

@chbartist sir!
Anyone who has the power of knowledge can control himself or even in the extreme circumstances. Man is considered to be the most intelligent creature of the earth due to his knowledge. Because only a knowledgeable person can distinguish good from evil. The process of transferring knowledge from one generation to the next generation through various means has been going on. Due to knowledge, we have made our existence in the world and are utilizing the properties given by nature in good ways. Knowledge possesses the ability to win with all the physical powers. Knowledge can be earned only and divided by doubling it gets back.

@chbartist Reading is a joy and we try to fully involved in it.
"Knowledge is the best weapon to change the world "and it is right too because pen is most powerful than a weapons. Reading opens our mind we learn something new and think about that.

@ankitjnv

I add that to have the habit of reading it is necessary to know first what it is that we like, or what kind of branch or science we are passionate about, because the reading of any book or text will automatically become read only to read, and we will never enjoy it. and if we do not enjoy it, we will never get these much needed daily reading benefits. It is necessary to learn to be selective with what we read to be successful in taking the habit of reading.

This is a great and cheap was to invest in yourself which provides the best return you will ever experience! Knowledge is power and the benefits can be share and built to great things in one’s life!

@chbartist thanks a lot to grow up this community. Sir I want to ask one thing I what way you can resteem my post . Don't mind it plz just ask .

Reading not only is a way to increase knowledge, but for me anyway, it is relaxing and comforting. I love to read and find no better way to improve my day, than by opening a book.

Reading book is a time investment for ourself. We gain knowledge by reading books. We spend time in surfing Facebook or watching tv or movies but if we use this time to read books then it can give dual benefit. First we will not feel bored and its the best method to pass time and second we get knowledgeable which help us to improve in various ways. Great post @chbartist

How I love this post. Once again Sir this is really
inspiring. Knowledge is indeed power. I look at the brain as an asset and a gold mine which must be effectively tapped by feeding it with the right type of information.
Quality of information fed to the brain matters a whole lot. This days, people especially youths not only find it difficult to read but they find it difficult to read the right stuff- things that educate the mind. Interest also plays an important role too. Many of us develop interest in the wrong things which only produce temporary pleasure and temporary satisfaction.
I still hold on to the truth- developing interest in worthy things and feeding the brain with the right information would go a long way in building a society that is full of innovative and creative minds ready to transform the entire world.
But I pray the younger generation reason in this direction.
Once again inspiring post sir-@chbartist

I find reading many books at the same time helps too. Consuming a little at a time and changing topic means I'm never weary of what I'm studying.

Excellent post @chbarist, it is interesting the evolution that each reader develops from the beginning, from the first book. If we made a list from the first book to the last, we would discover the changes in our tastes, the way of thinking and seeing the world. Reading speed also increases over time but there are books that should definitely be read slowly.
Another interesting thing is that what we discover in a book will depend on our level of knowledge and awareness, we can read the same book 5 years later and perceive things that we could not before.

I think,
Knowledge is power,
Reading is power,
Is a misunderstanding.
Maybe it made me understand the mistake after translation.
I think,
Thinking is power,
Cogito ergo sum.
And reading is not about reading, but about thinking after reading.
Knowledge is not enough to form strength, but it can enhance our ability to think.

Hi @chbartist!

Knowledge is power. I would like to share an event from my life. Sometime ago I shared a post on Facebook which said about a particular dressing style which I adored. And, I was attacked by my friend by humiliating comments. I could not reply to him and I was pondering it again and again.
Then I came across a video which said about the fact that if we are feeling miserable by an action, comment or gesture of someone, we are giving our emotional reigns to him to control ourselves. We must be our controllers not someone else. I think you have talked about this in a previous post.

Then, after holding this knowledge and churning on it, I let all the negativity drain away, I felt way better. Since then I pay less heed to similar situations.

Knowledge is power. Books are evergreen but videos and audio ebooks work better for me!

Thanks for sharing

What an amazing recommendation @chbartist : Reading, love it...!!!

Especially when you said in one of your lines in the post:: ººººWhen you open a book to read, fiction or nonfiction, that book will take you out of the real world and put you in an imaginary world full of new wonders to discover.ºººº

That´s incredible, a book makes everyone to be in peace I´m sure...

A book teach you everything, and how to see a better life or how to change for a better world. Also how to be a better person with others....

Reading is the most incredible thing in this world, of course improving everyday...

A book MEANS everything and now I´m without WORDS....!!!

Hi @chbartist....Today, when a man reads only to “kill time” or to learn the news of the day, he does not know the value of reading. To be in the first class as a reader, a man must read at least one useful, instructive book a month.
Some business or technical books are goldmines. They contain money-making knowledge. They are the best labour-saving devices. In three or four hours, a man can read a book and learn the experience of another man’s whole lifetime. 😊😊😊

thanks @chbartist, Reading is essential for education, ... and although education is expensive, ignorance is more,.... ignorance is dangerous.

That's my forte. I love reading. While in college I stopped. Everything was running so fast, always busy with assignment or projects. After submitting my final thesis earlier this year, I felt a huge relief and then a bit lonely. Then, I decided to go back to reading and it's been great. Like you said 'an investment in knowledge pays the best interest'.

Recently I wrote a series of articles on the curse of ignorance, but in last article I wrote about the blessings of knowledge, aim was to urge people on the importance of being life learners. I appreciate your article chibartist because it has done what it took me three article to explain. You have done a good job.
Nevertheless what you have said it true, our minds need information to formulate, to produce, to imagine to see more and to dream better dreams, that all I can say.

People do read less nowadays,it was at the German or Austrian news yesterday. They said they buy less books because most people are busy with their smartphone or Pc. But buying a book is not the same as reading. A bookis still expensive and fact is it is luxury and there are libraries too.
I did notice many do only read the first 2 lines and made up their opinion already. If knowledge is an investment I doubt after all these years. Knowing everything or a lot does not make you popular, it is not a guarantee for a great job (no boss will take you if this means you earn more or know more as he does) and in the end we are all the same... old, sick, drooling, useless, overworked, consuming, unwanted. It is better to develope skills like creativity or lying (if you like to be a politician).

Thanks power of knowledge. Thank you your marvelous work.

There is no age limit of knowledge, agree with you @chbartist knowledge is power.

Agree with your presumption that gaining knowledge is not everyone’s cup of tea. It’s take years, if not decades, of continuous and rigorous passion towards gaining and spreading knowledge. Books have been the most traditional approach of passing valuable experience and knowledge gained through years of hardship. There’s are newer means today, each catering a particular audience. Value based learners have their customized learning methods, so do practical learners, or visual learners or brute-force learners. People like yourself use the current trendy method of blogging to spread your personal account of knowledge gained. There’s Brilliant.org, there’s edx.org, top universities age providing MOOC courses, Wattpadd allows writer to publish books for free, and having a dedicated audience read their books.

There’s limit to how knowledge can be gained in our current era. Thanks for doing your part @Chbarist

Not all knowledge is power, I just made a post is learning useless and harmful?
https://steemit.com/life/@oganesov/is-learning-useless-and-harmful

Because in our age there are so much junk, bad, incorrect, outdated information that's amazing.))

To obtain a wide range of knowledge we must read different kinds of books. I believe it is the fact that the words are printed on paper that makes it more beneficial for the brain. Books definitely help with speaking and writing better since we learn to use words in different ways.

This may be your best post to date. The importance of reading cannot be overstated. It brings a depth of meaning to the knowledge and wisdom one gains from the written word. I would argue that words expressed in any form – read, sung and spoken – have immense value to our discourse.

Knowledge, wisdom can't be gained in a twinkle of an eye as you said, reading is one of the best sources, your article is one of them, thanks for excellent writing.

Exactly the thought which is running through my mind. Reading books can revive ourselves and make us find our inner self.
I made a post about the importance of book reading a few days back.
You can check out that if you feel interests.

Reading is important. There used to be this magazine in soviet union called exactly what you said in the title of the post.

As the world became digitilised now, and almost all knowledge are there in many forms online you can read online or offline. Books are there. I think it is the easiest way to me to learn and inprove every aspect of our life! Good work!!!

Great post, I’m going to make an effort to read more something I never did a lot in my younger years going up, now looking back I have regrets of not using or living up to my full potential. It’s is very easy to get stuck in a rut and the same routine everyday.
