Dutifulness Can Preemptively Destroy Your Life and Your Identity...

in #mindset6 years ago (edited)

Hi, dear Steemians!

When you were just a child, the obligations of society and the deep and often painful matters of adult life could not compromise your secure boundaries of comfort and ease.

Eventually, as you grew older, your parents felt the need to teach you about living and the responsibilities that come with it. Before then, you knew only how to enjoy your moments and assume the role of the careless thinker.

But after that, you were forced to accept some hard truths; that life is not always going to be fun and games, that you needed to accomplish things for yourself, so that you could have a prosperous life and be untroubled by the necessities that society ordains for you.

And that was the moment whole generations were put under the illusory spell of obligation and their dreams flew away to a land unbeknownst to them.

You see, our family and close friends have always preached to us about how we should live our life.

About how we should finish our education in a field that may not even be to our liking, because it obviously has more career opportunities.

About how we should accept mandatory and depressive jobs in narrow and heartless offices where endless people work the machines to feed the ever-growing system of a relentless society.

This concept that we were raised with, from a certain point of our life, is known as dutifulness. Dutifulness can destroy your life if you do not understand it.

image2.jpg

It is mature and courageous to take responsibility of your own life.

That should not be mistaken for dutifulness. Dutifulness is the idea that success and achievement can only come if you take away joy from your life and embrace pain.

Ever since you were small and started to learn about dutifulness, a fallacious and erroneous thought erupted in your mind and grew. You thought that joy and happiness were from the time you used to play with your toys.

Anything that did not resemble that sense of joy could be contributed to you being dutiful and responsible about your own life. That is why many of us cannot enjoy our jobs.

That is why we think to study, to learn, to understand, to work and etc. is just labor and no joy or consolation of any sorts could come out of it.

The danger of dutifulness lies in the fact that you inadvertently give up on experiencing maturity as you should, and think that every mandatory and obligatory deed in society should be done in a spiteful way.

image3.jpg
img src

More so, some people forsake their dreams for the sake of being responsible for their future. A career in arts or some other explosive and innovative idea is no stable way to pay the loans or cover the costs of living.

That is why dutifulness is, at its best, the death of your dreams. Do not mistake it with being responsible for your future.

Dutifulness is the idea that nothing good could ever come out of anything if you started enjoying your professional work.

Life is afflicted with pain, but that does not mean that every aspect of its professional side should be considered painful or erroneous. We could learn to love our jobs, or follow our dreams with fearlessness.

Follow, above all else, the thing that brings you joy, happiness, and fulfilment.

You can trust me when I say that the other aspects of it will fall in order on their own!

A BIG HUG!

This idea of dutifulness in it's entirety has made many people lost their sense of self. We shouldn't forget that fun never dies. Regardless of whatever age you are in, fun should be alive else our lives won't be flexible at all. Life is hard but at the same time, it is meant to be enjoyed. So many unfulfilled bankers, engineers and so on would have been better singers, songwriters and actors but they chose other profession because they want to please their family members wish for them thus killing their dreams. At the end of it all, pain and regrets sets in. Regards @chbartist

I read your post with interest, dutifulness, I think my life was almost all about it, until I decided to cut off what I have learned and learn something new, the way we group sometimes can be so oppressive, we are so used that job must be painful and sometimes also that love must be painful that we never find joy or we feel guilty if we found it.. In something that the society can add as a waste of time.. By the way I read i the end of your pist you talk about a community? You mean steemit or another one?

Hi @denamrkguy and being a baby boomer many memories came flooding back regarding duty. I had a sense of duty in caring for my parents in their last years. I took this seriously and do not regret my efforts and energies and now I have no regrets, only lovely memories.

We are always instilled, work in a company and meet a schedule, which does not allow you to do anything for you ... only for the company. I felt trapped in my last job, and I decided to leave, many people told me I was crazy, taht how I doing... if currently in my country reigns unemployment, but I had already made the decision, and honestly, I do not regret it. I work with steemit, I have time for my home, for my girls and for me, I am currently doing a bakery course that I have wanted to do for a long time, and I have a schedule in a company, I could never do the course ....

Life is not all about chocolates , cakes or sweets.
Its about our purpose in life. Pain doesn't necessarily mean that we're deprived of happiness or joy. Pain is also a purification for the growth of our virtues not vices.
Its not all about what we want in our lives, but its about our responsibilities and duties to serve for the common good.
We don't live alone just to serve our own selves and desires.
We are community of mankind living together and connected to serve each other.
If we have our personal dreams, let's think deeper, analyze, ponder and discern whether these dreams will serve for all or for our own personal interests, desires and pleasures.

You are right , everything will eventually fall in place.

We should also strive to do anything we choose to do with passion and respect as it will reflect on our work ethic and the impacts of future ventures.

Excellent Article, I have always said that life has its ups and downs, the fundamental pillar to get ahead is always going to be the family, always the best is to fight and have perseverance discipline and a lot of courage to move forward. regards

Thanks for the new entry. "Dutifulness can destroy your life if you do not understand it" is one powerful message. Oftentimes we mistake responsibilities for dutifulness. There are many parents of young kids in this generation thought that in order to preserve their originality, they need to trim down their responsibilities, sending their kids down to the path of misery childhood.

I think sir if you are dutiful you do everything that you are accepted to do.

Dutifulness is common to Philippines... When the eldest child have the job he or she is oblige to support the family financial... Coz if u don't follow the society will label u as an ungreatful person ,selfish and rude person.

Well, I value family but the thing that I dont like is when family forces their child to fully support such and when the child find valid reason not to for a moment then that would be a crazy world war 4 on the family...
I just wish parents and siblings would encourage their children to save up for better investments than forcing them to be their sucking bank...

My personal opinion it's necessary action expected and think valuable for everyone.

Posted using Partiko Android

That's absolutely happens @chbartist. As a child your are always secured in the boundaries of love and care, but we you grow and come out of the boundaries then you understand how difficult is to live with all the responsibilities.

Dutifulness. I had never thought of the name but I have been thinking about this. Our son has asked us to not continue with our style of living. We move to a new place and experience as much as we can then move on to the next area. He says he feels it is important for us to have a relationship with our grands and can't do this if we keep moving. I have been so torn, but now I wonder if he is just trying to keep me locked down by this dutifulness. Interesting. It gives me more to ponder and consider.

Please add us to your list. Thanks.
Ren

We should not expect good from life, then life will give us satisfaction.

our dutifulness attitude is like brainwash as we grow in the eyes of society. We remove our being from ourselves and to compensate that emptiness, we put on masks. Obedience masks. But our real self always manifests, sooner or later.

None wants to work, everyone wants to enjoy, but without working how could they earn money and lead their lives, whatever sector in the job they work that must be done properly and if they become master of that definitely they will love and enjoy their jobs, in every job, there’s interest and the interest develops slowly, we need to go deep and deep the jobs. Our dreams which we bear in our soft corner of mind can be achieved by targeting that in proper way without being influenced by others. Our nearest and dearest one wants that we may become hero in our society with respect and honour for that they can pride, as a part of that they may put suggestions, advices etc. but choices is mine. Thanks for your excellent post.

@chbartist, Yes, when it comes to work from many people we hear about the negative side most of the times, it sounds like people are engaged in work which literally depressing their life. But in my opinion most of the times it's our perception and perception can be changed any time while correcting our mindset. Stay blessed.

Posted using Partiko Android

I think if you feel depressed by your work, it is time to try something else. If your attitude change does not help - find another type of work. There are many things you can work at and be fulfilled.

Yes, change is vital to bring newness and refreshing essence in our work life. Stay blessed.

Exactly its same as you said. Once we grow up then people around us start teaching us their traditional rules to follow and if we don't follow then they scare us. I think doing anything is not wrong if we have passion for that.
Anything done it without passion then better not to do that. Thanks much @chbartist for the post.
