I think there is a lot of focus on how government surveillance impacts social behavior, but less attention paid to corporate surveillance done under the guise of targeted advertisement. It's truly a pandora's box that has affected not only systems of governance, but mental health, and fragmentation of society by placing individuals in bubbles they may not even know they're in, effectively shielding them from alternative viewpoints. This of course feeds back into government surveillance through the use of warrants and subpoenas on the massive troves of data collected by these companies. Everyone should be taking this in to consideration when posting anything online or sharing personal data with these companies!
