What A Difference A Year Makes! My 1st Steemiversary

in #milestone7 years ago

I celebrated my 1st Steemiversay on June 2. It has been a wild and crazy ride over the last year or so. I am so blessed to have stumbled into such a wonderful community and platform.

June 2nd

On the day I started Steeming, I had been unemployed for 3 days. Three days turned in months. It was the first time in my adult life that I felt helpless to provide for my wife and family. I needed an outlet to express how I was feeling (even during the moments that I was not sure what to say).

I needed an opportunity to provide value and server others. I needed a chance to explore and create. I needed a distraction that could help me channel away my feelings of worthlessness.

All Of The Newbie Mistakes

I made a lot of mistakes when I first joined the Steem community.

  • I tried to hard to force change when I really needed to be patient and allow for organic growth.
  • I focused on results and got discouraged when there were none.
  • I focused on creating content before I had developed community.
  • I was focused on making posts, but not as focused on refining posts.

I still remember the day that @kevinwong said that I needed to find my niche, my voice, my way to serve. Since that day I have been trying to create with a purpose and not just for the sake of creating.

Lots To Celebrate

Despite all of my mistakes, I still have a lot to celebrate.

  • I have become a better writer. I still have a long way to go, but I have learned and grown.
  • I have joined some great communities, particularly @qurator and @thesteemengine.
  • I have grown my tribe to over 1345 followers.
  • I have received 2 @curie upvotes.
  • I am really close to a reputation of 60 (58.611 to be exact).

I Am Looking To The Future

I celebrate the past. I enjoy the present. And I look to the future.

I look forward to adding value to our Steem community and platform. Opportunities abound to make a difference, and I choose to be a change agent.

I will continue to focus on posts about Faith | Family | Freedom | Finances at @SumatraNate. I enjoy sharing my thoughts and experiences with you all and learning from you as well.

I still want to develop @SteemEnglish so that it can serve members of the Steem community who want to improve their English skills. I feel that my experience teaching conversational English and my interest in technology is a great combination.

I am excited about the launch of Steem Markdown. I found a lot of information about Markdown, but it was scattered across multiple sites. I gathered the best and most useful principles that are relevant to Steem, and organized them in an easy to understand online course. Now there is an easy way to learn Markdown so that your posts look as great as the content you have created.

Final Thought

It was a been a tough year, but a good one. Many thanks to everyone who has supported me over the last 12 months. I appreciate the opporunties to speak into your lives. I appreciate the chance to grow meaningful relationships. I appreciate the chance to learn from you.

May be move forward in harmony and unity. May we found ways to serve. May our business ventures be successful as we focus on the needs of other people.

Here's to many more Steemiversaries!

Late to the party...lolol

Congratulations @sumatranate!

I joined Steemit back in September of 2016. I haven't joined any communities. I don't have a favorite milestone, I don't pay attention to time but I have achieved several goals...hehe

I found Grammarly which has helped my grammar and given me the confidence to write more rather than only post art projects here on Steemit. My Steemit dream is to make enough to do a travel Steemit blog, so I can visit all my favorite people from all over the world that I have worked with on Steemit.

Better late than never. I am very glad we crossed paths so early in my Steem journey. It has always been a pleasure to interact with you and learn more about you.

May we both enjoy the time so much that it just passes by. May the Steem platform and community help us achieve our goals. May we make a difference in this world!

I think the postive differences we make through this social media site will be interacting with people from all over the world. We can get to know each other and see there isn't much difference when it comes to what makes us healthy and happy. <3

Happy steemit birthday @sumatranate! Mine is today. Hehe.

I am happy and proud to be #steemph #thealliance and recently #steemitmamas while my favorites milestobe was rep 60. It was really hard to get there. Lols

My steem dream, is to make our community @steemph.uae become.more active in the expat community here in the UAE. 😉

Cheers to more steemiversaries! 🎉🎈🎊

Congrats @arrliinn! Getting to 60 is challenging. I hope to be there soon. Thanks for the work you do in your sub communities. I know that you add value. My we celebrate many more years along the same journey even thought the oceans separate us.

The errors are the most common, mainly that of creating content but not observing the details or making them "TOP". Congratulations, I've been here half the year (6 months) and my mentality has changed a lot since the first publication. I did not read tutorials or guides on how to start and everything was done my way, stumbles like a novice. I still consider that I still have a lot to know, but that over time you learn, something faster than another, here you become versatile. In the long term, I would like to contribute more to the community and meet many people, continue to learn and polish the content I normally believe. When you least expect it, you will go to the 2 Steemiversay!

I have learned a lot. I have changed a lot as well. That is part of the journey. My advice is that you find the topics that you like to talk about and find a unique way to present those topics to your audience.

Keep pressing forward and keep Steeming!

Congrats my friend @sumatranate for your achievement. it is not easy to be there. I have learn a lot of things from you since we knew each other a couple of months. I still have a dream to be able to help more member...I am involved in many community but I could not get there sometimes. i miss them so much. Just a few minute ago I even difficult to leave comments on their post. I did read your post without any comments. apologize for this internet connection and time is over for me. need to home and cook something for early breakfast. thank again for your friendship @sumatranate

I am glad that we connected and are now friends. Thanks for your kind words. If you can not be involved all the time, make sure that you are providing quality posts and comments when you are involved.

Selamat Bulan Ramadan.

I am not only considering you as friend on steemit, but you are friend of mine in real life also. I made a commitment to post as good as possible contents. I realized when I am away, I miss friends here, and no more about SBD. I will be so happy when I can manage to see friends again.

Congrats on a year!

It was great to connect with you fairly soon after I joined. I also started with Steemit in June of 2017, but a bit later on in the month. Hard to believe that a year has already gone by!

It is fun to think about all the people I met early on in the journey. Glad that we have been able to get to know each other a bit. I appreciate your consistent support along the way.

May there be more years to celebrate!

I had to go to google translate...hahaha

Terima kasih/Thank you @steemitcountry <3

Thanks for writing a comment in Bahasa Indonesia. I have really enjoyed getting to know people from Indonesia. It makes my heart happy since I lived there for so long.

I hope the best for you and your husband. It was very challenging for me when my family left Indonesia. That was home for our family. I really enjoyed the work I did there. I grieved deeply when we left and became depressed. I am better now primarily because of the support of my wife. This will be a hard time, but I know you will love him well.

I appreciate your comment that you wrote in bahasa Indonesia. It was hard when our family left Indonesia. We left home. I left my job. We all grieved deeply, but we are pulling through.

A lot is going on in your husband's mind right now. Love him well and show him patience.

I empathize with you, I helped my husband too, and he works independently now. He will not work another big corporate job. I love the Indonesian people, from what I've experienced here on Steemit they are so friendly.

Trims atas komennya.

I will learn much with you mr @sumatranate. Succes for you

Thanks for the comment. I hope that I can continue to help new members of our community.
