RE: Thank You For Helping Me Reach 70 Rep! // 20 SBD Giveaway – Building Community

Ok, so much to love here. I hope someday my kids refer to me as a crazy mother with as much admiration as your description evokes.

I, too am a musician, though it's been on hold for the last 12 years, rather, it's changed to lullabies and songs about diaper changes and wiping boogers for the time being...

I grew up only like cheese on pizza and nachos (which now I don't even consider to be real cheese) to now being a huge cheese fan! Especially good raw cheese which we used to make from our own goat's milk, but also the hard cheeses! Although, I still can't be near bleu cheese. Don't know if I'll ever be able to do that...

We used to raise quail because I have one daughter with insane-crazy food allergies and the quail eggs are often tolerated well by folks who react to chicken and duck eggs! They were so fun to hard boil and we dyed them using purple cabbage and turmeric for easter and they were so fun! As for naming birds, when we first started homesteading 6 years ago, we had a rooster who we called Buddy. Didn't name him that officially, we would just talk to him, "Out of the way, Buddy!" Well, the kids started calling him that and it stuck until one day when he attacked my 8 yr old. We had Buddy soup and quesadillas that weekend. From then on we only name the rooster after villains, Darth Vader, Garmadon and Voldemort...

@crowbarmama saw you on steemitmamas I think, small world :)

Yes! @steemitmamas is an awesome community! And growing fast! Welcome!

I love it... wanna hear something crazy and hilarious.

One of our little roosters got beat up by the other one big time. Both his eyes were swollen, so i picked him up from the cage. I put him on separate one and I let him heal. That day I decided to call him Ray Charles. The poor blind thing struggled just to find the water.

Next thing you know one eye healed.... He was not Ray Charles anymore, he was pirate. But, i loved the Ray name so much it stuck... it just doesnt make sense anymore.

Haha! Wow! A pirate rooster! Lol! That sounds like a kids' book begging to be written... Yes! Names can be tricky. When we got our first flock, the lady we got them from said she was pretty good at determining the sex early on. Not perfect, she said, but about 80%. So the girls named the hen Heather and the rooster, Peter. They were the cutest pair of Bantams. The rest of the flock was standard size and didnt accept them right away so they always hung out together. A few weeks later Peterina was sitting on eggs and Mr. Heather was attacking the large roosters. Too funny...
