Last week, Intel said its own security updates are buggy due to which spontaneous reboot is happening. Taking that into consideration, Microsoft has issued an emergency security update for windows to deal with the issue. In latest financial results, Intel disclosed that it's buggy firmware updates could lead to “data loss or corruption”.
The new updates from Microsoft is a part of its Windows Update catalog, which means you’ll need to download it manually. In addition to this update, Microsoft is also releasing a new registry key to manually disable or enable the Spectre variant 2 protections. If your system is affected by Intel’s buggy firmware updates, then these updated are worth to be applied.
Though Intel has issued warning for PC makers and customers, not to apply updates until further tests but Microsoft has gone a step further and already issued the update for Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 systems. Microsoft said in a statement that these updates have been tested and definitely prevents the reboots occurring due to Spectre bug.
