Switch is a device which is used to control many technical products and engineered systems as well. Switches are used in electronic devices to on or off the device. Mechanical switches are used to lock or unlock doors, or to select gears in a car's transmission system. Basically a switch is a small transistor used to make on or off action in a electronic device.
Engineers are desirous to develop a switch for controlling heat in electronic devices in which controlling the heat is in turn enhances the performance and the reliability of the device. But developing a heat switch is not an easy task..
" Heat flow occurs when a switch have a hot temperature region near a lot temperature region. In order to achieve the controlling of heat flow by developing a specific heat flow path between the region of hot temperature and that of low temperature, and then created a way to break the heat flow path when desired."
The researchers demonstrated the technology in a system modeled after modern electronics systems. On one side of the switch there was a heat source representing the power electronics component, and on the other side of the switch, there was liquid cooling for heat removal. When the switch was on, they were able to extract heat at more than 10 W/cm2. When the switch was off, the heat flow dropped by nearly 100X.
The next step is to develope this technology on a system of switch board....
