Countdown to the Telly Awards

Letters to Daniel Set
Justin Simmons, me, Missy Goodman

Dear Daniel,

It's that time of year when festival and award events start sending out notifications. Some more important than others. Places like Stonybrook, Imaginarium, Indie Gathering, AOF, ARFF, New Cinema, AMMIF, ect.

But the most prestigious awards event that Letters to Daniel qualifies for is the Telly Awards. They announce they're winners this Wednesday, May 27th. I wonder if we'll get personal emails. Everyone from independent filmmakers like me, to studios like CBS and ABC submit branded work for a chance at an award.

I wanted to submit for an Emmy but my film is 13 minutes too short for that. I'll admit it is intimidating to go up against companies with millions of dollars at their disposal to throw at a project.

I had six grand and a massive networking effort paid off. With limited resources and limited time I made a quality film that packs an emotional wallop. Not everybody can do what I did.

And I was only able to do it because of the people around me. I would love to take the news back to my team that we are Telly Award Winners.

I submitted under the social issues category. I think we're best positioned to win one in that category. There are lots of categories. But given big productions with people with far superior talent to mine I didn't want to throw good money after bad.

So here I am Monday morning, two more sleeps until the big announcement. So fingers crossed and prayers sent up. This would be an amazing validation for everyone's sacrifice and time where Letters to Daniel is concerned.

Sincerely,

Amy McCorkle
