Sure you can vote on your own comments, but voting them with a higher weight than the post you're voting on is a bit frowned upon in my opinion.
It kind of depends on the length of the comment and the content of the post of course.
Agreed. It's annoying seeing somebody did a tiny upvote on the post and then a 100% upvote on their own comment...
Sometimes I want to down vote content I don't like, but i'm worried i might get abuse. Can people see my down-vote?

Yikes. I don't like the idea of being seen down voting. I can imagine getting a lot of problems for doing that. How does the site tackle spam?
Through downvotes. @steemcleaners if you want to help but fear retaliation (or just need more vote power)

Oh I dream of the day when I can actually vote with different weightings haha.
I like to upvote other peoples comments.. that encourages their interaction with me.. and I vary the weight of my upvote according to the value of the comment..
Just my two cents...I upvote my articles but I do not upvote my comments.
I feel the posts are of quality...comments are for the author...I let him/her and the other ones commenting decide if it warrants anything.

For a post you've worked hours on, 100% upvote is totally justified.
Absolutely....no reason not to upvote yourself in that situation.
And I dont think many on here would argue that one.
It is the "thanks for posting" when people upvote themselves $3.25 and then dont even upvote the article that drives people nuts.
Seen this a Lotta times.. There's this user named @damarth... Commented on an introductory post and gave a smaller upvote weight.. And then upvoted his comment to $40+

Ahhh those bots are so bad... It's always funny to see completly inappropriate comments under posts.
Yep, worst one I ever saw was someone discussing the death of his dad and a spammer had replied with
Hahahaha... 😂.. I bet someone flagged the hell outta him... Saw something similar the other day, the spammer replied with "great photo, thank you," on a post that had nothing to do with photos. He was so flagged his reputation dropped
Both of the worst I've seen were contained in the same post which was paying tribute to a passed friend. One left a link to his recent post about praying for people dying in a war torn country and about humanity being shitty or something, and the other was someone who spammed "Beautiful! This is a great post! Amazing! Follow me!"

Flagging doesnt hurt you at all. It is simply a downvote and removes the amount you downvote equal to that you would have upvoted.
For example, If your 10% upvote is worth 35 cents then a 10% downvote would remove 35 cents from a post.
Also if you have a higher rep than the person you will remove a little rep of theirs too
One warning however, it can hurt you as a side effect if the person you flag gets pissed and starts flagging you back

Haha... I down voted someone the other day because of that...
I am totally guilty of doing this in the introduce yourself section - but I (usually)upvote the post - do you guys hate me for that? Please - Let me explain:
I feel like it's a lot of work nowadays on the introduceyourself section as, many people are creating fake identities or stealing others identities.
This guy claims he is an Australian living in Thailand with like a masters in Law or something, but there was such bad grammar and punctuation, it raised many red flags for me...
So I asked him to put up a username and date next to his selfie, and of course no reply..
But meanwhile all these other people, mostly newbies, are commenting great post, welcome, glad to have you! For example: https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@sabeboo83/your-bestfriend-is-now-on-steemit-i-am-a-cheerful-heart-of-cryptocurrency-as-well
So to me this is an obvious identity steal, and maybe with more sinister intentions as he is telling people he will give them legal and crypto advice, which may be setups for various types of scams...
So, at the end of the day, when I have steemed all I can steem, and voted on the blogs and comments I care about - I usually self upvote on my comments at 100% until my voting power is depleted to around 75%. I usually self upvote my comments in the introduce yourself section as a way of patting myself on the back for my efforts to keep the ruffians out of steemit... That's what I tell myself anyway.
So - do you guys hate me? Or am I giving myself some change for keeping steemit a safer place?
I really would appreciate any honest replies on this. I'll even upvote you! ;)
EDIT: Also sometimes I see this happening when a controversial poster (usually a whale) puts up a controversial topic, and there are already a hundred comments like (good post) ( i agree) (you're right) and someone actually has something relevant to say that DISAGREES with the original content/poster. So they self upvote to get their comment above the sea of {FOLLOW ME PLEASE}... but they don't want to give the whale/ OP any (more) money.... Pleze Discuzz!

Ich finde die Idee super. Aus irgendeinem Grund komme ich nicht in den Chat. Klappt irgendwie mit der Anmeldung nicht. Mir geht es nicht primär um das Geld. Aber es ist eben schon hart, wenn man sehr aufwendige Beiträge postet und sie in der Versenkung verschwinden. Da muss man durch. Ich wäre schon für einen wöchentlichen Treff. Man muss ja nicht teilnehmen. Ich habe hinter mir ein paar weitere neue Mitglieder hinter her gezogen, die es noch wesentlich schwerer haben werden
