Sure you can vote on your own comments, but voting them with a higher weight than the post you're voting on is a bit frowned upon in my opinion.

It kind of depends on the length of the comment and the content of the post of course.

Agreed. It's annoying seeing somebody did a tiny upvote on the post and then a 100% upvote on their own comment...

Sometimes I want to down vote content I don't like, but i'm worried i might get abuse. Can people see my down-vote?

Yes, this is all done on a public ledger.

Yikes. I don't like the idea of being seen down voting. I can imagine getting a lot of problems for doing that. How does the site tackle spam?

Through downvotes. @steemcleaners if you want to help but fear retaliation (or just need more vote power)
