One of the tools I use to aid me in meditation are Binaural waves... one other thing I do before meditating is write... I got this Idea from Julia cameron's book "The artist's way" but I find that when I write and listen to binaural waves my meditation session is quite Insightful.

I've also used Insight Timer. Very good app with nice Tibetan bowl sounds. It also has a notes section to track one's experiences. Resteemed this fine post.
