5 Easy Ways To Begin Meditating (Original Content)

I started meditating when I was 18. I found a center that taught meditation and once a month went there for classes. Since then, I've had many teachers, practiced many styles, and have created my own in the process.


5 Simple Meditations

1. Slow down your breaths. Inhale for a count of 5, exhale for a count of 5. Do this for 1 minute or more.

2. Practice peripheral vision. Relax the eye muscles, and let the gaze go wide. Do this while sitting (not driving, at first).

3. Notice sensations in the body. Your legs, your abdomen, your heart, your throat. You can also use the Chakras as a guide. Do this for at least 1 minute.

4. Walking meditation. You can do the breathing meditation (number 1) while walking. Be more mindful of the scenery, flowers, and what's around you.

5. Practice love and gratitude. Put a timer on for 1 minute and feel things you love. You can speak them out loud or just feel them.


My hope is you incorporate at least one of these into your life. Meditation has been a HUGE help in my life.

That is a great beginning. I've found meditation to help me mentally and physically. I use calm.com regularly, but when i'm out in nature i love to just sit and completely relax and take it all in.

Hi Andy. I've heard so much about calm.com but haven't purchased it yet. Glad you like it! As I get more mature, there isn't any "right" way to meditate. You can't "mess up" either. Things you learn after years of discovery, as I'm sure you know.

Cool tips. I never tried a walking mediation...do you use headphones or just concentrate on your breathing without headphones?

Whatever makes you more aware and mindful. You can also do the love and gratitude while walking. Yes, music can be a very powerful stimulator. I do use music sometimes.

1- roll a joint
2- burn it
3- smoke it
4- let your mind flow
5- enjoy the meditation.

Thank you flexifriday for the meditation tips. I learned transmediation (misspelled word ) meditation back in the 70's. I've neglected the simple part about breathing, but I know I must start with that. Some people claim to be more productive and energetic from practicing meditation. Here is a good place to meditate I believe.
