Take two of these and call me in the morning? not so much anymore.
Are ya feeling bad?, a little under the weather, or depressed? Do you suffer from E.D. or just need something to give that anti-depression medicine an extra kick? Because there is officially a pill for everything now, and there is a pill for that too. What I mean is there is a pill for one thing, then with all the side effects, there is a pill for that, then there is a pill for that side effect too. Are we seeing a pattern here?
Well, ya don't wanna get sick or have a need to take medicine anymore for sure. I'm sure all of you have seen the constant commercials on TV and heard them on the radio. They use famous spokespersons for all of these pills to make us feel like it is safe. But, then, the disclaimers start. "Using this pill can cause headaches, irritability, diarrhea or constipation (<--- Really?) dry mouth, heart palpitations, loss of appetite, anal leakage, liver or kidney problems, high blood pressure or low blood pressure, or sudden death" so on and so on. The list is so big that more than half of the commercials are the "possible" side effects and what to do if you experience them. It really makes me not ever want to take anything at all.
All doctors are solicited to use the new drugs and push them on to their patients, I am sure their is some incentives for the doctor to do so, but I don't know this for fact. The global pharmaceuticals market is worth US$300 billion a year, a figure expected to rise to US$400 billion within three years. This is quite a business, and with all the side effect prescriptions, it has a domino effect and makes them richer and richer, while our insurance premiums climb higher and higher.
Sometimes, the side effects are worse than the problem you have in the first place. I know someone who took prescribed pills for migraines, and one of the side effects of this pill was headaches....Really? My mother takes pills to treat a stomach problem which causes respiratory problems, and then takes a pill for that which, because she is diabetic (takes a pill for this too) causes her blood sugar to spike.
If there is not a commercial for a pill on the air, it seems there is a law firm commercial trying to get clients to call to join up for class action lawsuits against the makers of these pills. It's a huge vicious circle that people get trapped in, and in a lot of cases, they cant get out because you can't just stop taking some of these pills. Some of them you have to be "weaned" off of, and it can cause more damage than just continuing the pills. Although some medicines do have an actual purpose and help people get better, there are many that do just the opposite. It may not seem so at first, but before you know it, you will be on five or six medications and three of them will be to treat the side effects of the other two. The doctors, insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, and even the lawyers fighting them are ok with this because, believe me, they are getting very rich off of you being sick, and the pills that are keeping you sick.
