Sort:

Total number of notepad = 900
Divided in 20 students
Each student contains notepads = 900/20 = 45 note pads
Total number of laptop collected by 8 student = 8 * 45 = 360
1//3 of laptop received by 8 student delivered to remaining 12 students = 360 x 1/3 = 120 No
Now total student = 20
Remaining student = 20- 8 = 12
Additional notepad for each student = 120/12 = 10
so total number of note pad = 900

20% upvoted since you replied the fastest with correct answer. But your working shouldn't start with 900, which is the answer.

The 5% will be given to @fireddd as a consolation for the correct working

You are absolutely right. It should not started with the answer. @fireddd certainly deserve more. Keep sharing @larryphang

so according to the question, the situation is as follows:
Let the total number of the notepads equals x, so each gets x/20 in beginning and the 8 of give x/3 each to the rest 12. Corresponding the 12 receive 10 each.
So the mathematical equation of the following is:
8((2/3)(x/20))+12((x/20)+10)=x
solving for x, you get x=900;
Thus each person recieved 45 in the beginning

20% goes to @kamchore for the fastest comment with answer but not the standard working to prove.

So

5% upvoted to you for correct working

7200 in total

Total number of note pads are 900

Working to prove

This is a very challenging question. I can't figure it out but I wish the mathematicians here good success.
