Scientists have explained that the dark lines on the planet's surface are not water but sand traces.
Scientists from the University of Arizona, Durham University and the Institute of Planetary Science have shown images of narrow, dark current traces on the surface of the Red Planet obtained by the "HiRise" telescope placed on the Mars Exploration Site (MRO) of the American National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) examined.

Colin Dundas, principal investigator of the study, said that 151 lines of thousands of lines, called Repeated Slope Lines (RSL), were examined, with the majority of RSLs ending with slopes from 28 to 35 degrees, which is the same as the ending degree of sand slopes on Earth and Mars told.
