From my previous post, I was sharing about what it's like working from home. Click the link here to read.

Today, I'm going to talk about the process of planning a wedding. If you are interested, continue reading =)

I'm a Malaysian Chinese. I have two elder sisters, which means I'm the youngest in the house. My second sister who got married first, married a Polish and she didn't go through the Traditional Chinese wedding. This leads to my elder sister who got married after my second sister has to go through the Traditional Chinese Wedding.

What is a Traditional Chinese Wedding look like? (Please know that, all the information's are based on my experience, it is different for everybody)

If you have a big family, you probably will invite more than 500 people at the wedding reception.
If you are from a small to medium family, the wedding reception roughly will have 200 people or more.
Amount of people also depends on the arrangement between your siblings, for example, my fiance is the eldest son, so the wedding is going to be a big one. In my case, I'm the youngest and I'm the girl, I had to follow my fiance's family decision.

Who are the people that attend the wedding normally?

Both sides Parents' friend, business partner, colleague, family
Brides and Bridegroom's friends, colleague, bosses and etc
This can easily reach 200 to 500 people.

After guests are confirmed, the most headache part is the seat arrangement.

We usually will leave this task to our parents.

What are the things I encounter?
  1. Selection of auspicious dates for the Chinese wedding, the betrothal and the installation of the bridal bed.
During the selection of dates, we need to think about the availability of our guests. It is usually hard to hold a wedding between Monday to Thursday because most of the guests need to work the next day. Which makes it our wedding dates have to fall into weekends. Lucky enough, the selection of dates were determined by my fiance and me.

  2. The number of tables at the wedding banquet.
Oh my lord!! This was the thing that struck me the most. There's is no dream wedding in real life, you think you just gonna pull off a secret wedding at home in your garden like Miley Cyrus? Maybe some of you can, maybe I can, but the possibility is towards 0. I was having some disagreements about the number of people, how many receptions we should hold and more and more. But really, this is not something that I can decide. It's true, that I'm the one who is getting married, not my parents. It is supposedly up to us to decide. But today, we are two families who are going to join together as one. They have the right to join and discuss the wedding process. It takes time to have an agreement with one another. But once everything is settled, the next discussion will be much more joyful!

After so many discussions, we have finally come to a solution.
My fiance is a Kadazan (are an ethnic group indigenous to the state of Sabah, Malaysia). No matter what, our wedding is going to big, the more the merrier!!
My family is Chinese, and here we apply the "traditional Chinese Wedding"
My dream wedding is to only invite the closest people in our life. (looking into 60 people or lesser)

So, what's the plan? Do I still have my dream wedding?

Yes, I do! How we do it? We will hold three wedding receptions at three different privates locations. Yes, three wedding receptions!!! So each of us will not worry about the numbers of the table, who to invite, table seat arrangement and many many more.

Since we just got our date confirmed yesterday, I haven't had much to share already.
