RE: The 2017 Steem Growth Plan

in #marketing8 years ago

I don't think they are suggesting anything less than 100% effort should be given. I took it to mean perfection is often the worst enemy to good enough. When it comes to technology, it's quite easy (especially for developers) to get bogged down in details which don't really impact the bottom line. Excellence can exist alongside pragmatism but perfection is an illusion. We have to crawl before we can run.

You are right, Luke! 🙂👍 I wasn't challenging their efforts at all. It's obvious that they are giving at all and more than that.
Perfection is subjective thus relative. I'd rather strive for excellence (becoming no. 1 of my business).
Just saying that they should be 100% happy and committed with it before promoting anything. It's like opening doors and letting in your guests before the party is completely set up 😉

Ah, I see what you mean. I wonder if it's the same with regards to software though. It's never really done it's just deployed. The early versions of FoxyCart ten years ago were not that great, but they did meet some needs better than others. If we had waited for perfection, we never would have launched. I see excellence as properly balancing various goals which sometimes means sacrificing something in order to launch and meet real needs instead of not launching and being passed up by the competition. It's complicated stuff.

It´s definitely complicated, yeah. Nice side-kick, thanks for the insight! :)
I worked for Condé Nast a few years ago and I don´t remember that we launched any project / application being in their final shape. However, we were always 100% convinced that it would take off to the moon :)

This is exactly right Luke, thanks for clarifying that.

Hey andrarchy, one of the biggest problems aside from the marketing is the whale flagging issue which is our single biggest community problem here on Steemit - and I say that as a senior poster here. It's getting embarrassing having to explain this to all the new minnows.

I share the frustrations of @baah, and we need solutions to this quickly before we truly scale up. The latest @baah post highlighting the problem can be found here below. I hope the Steemdevs can nip this one in the bud soon! Thanks @andrarchy!

Thanks for the feedback @mindhunter, I hear you loud and clear. It's a tough problem to solve, but we are committed to improving the system.

Aside from the marketing it's the #1 community problem on Steemit - the minnows are confused, the dolphins are constantly screeching in my earhole and the whales do their own thing - some good, some bad - like every class of person in life. Thanks for listening @andrarchy. I trust your judgement on this one and leave it in your capable hands. I hope your feet are getting nice and warm under your new desk now :)
