I just started a similar plan to get my fellow skaters to join me on Hive, and so far I think it's working way better than just trying to sell people on the idea. Now mind you I don't have a big twitter following, but I do have some pretty big exposure on the facebook longboarding world. I run a group that has over 500 members, and am part of other groups that are in the 10's of thousands.
I just pitched a group of just under 10,000 members, to send me videos for me to share on Hive, and then I will transfer the profits to them minus the cost of transfer. So far the first couple posts have done well, which has lead to a huge spike in questions about Hive, friend requests, and a fair amount of videos for me to share. I win because I get more content to share, they win because they get money, and Hive wins because it's a great exposure to it, with out coming across as preachy, or like a salesman.
