How to get more ecommerce sales with email receipts

in #marketing7 years ago

Whenever a purchase is made from anywhere online, an email receipt is sent.

This is a pretty good way to connect with the customers but it's always overlooked as a valuable marketing opportunity, which in turn is making you miss out on sales.

Lets take a look at how to use certain email receipt templates as part of your marketing strategy to gain additional sales while maintaining a connection with your customers.

What are we missing?

So, email receipts get a good opening rate of nearly 71% compared to an average of 17% for regular email marketing campaigns, meaning that these are a commerce goldmine.

If the customer is getting the receipt that means they have trusted your place of commerce to the fullest, they've put their money into your brand/product, this trust opens up a massive opportunity window where you can.

  • Upsell related products in your store
  • Offer a discount code to incentivize a future purchase
  • Set up a feedback loop to better understand your customers and your checkout flow
  • Promote your social media accounts
  • Let customers share their purchase on Facebook
  • Much, much more

Pretty nifty huh?

Companies have already been doing this, go and look at your latest Uber receipt, no doubt you'll find a number of techniques to draw inspiration from (being able to rate the experience, offer a bonus for sharing with friends and give a good insight into the product)

Let's dig a bit deeper into what we can use

Email receipts as a way to upsell products

Whereas this sounds as simple and old as the dinosaurs, it's worth thinking about to no end.

In 2006, Amazon reported that 35% of its revenue was coming from cross selling and upselling efforts, mostly through EMAIL RECEIPTS

Offer discount codes

By offering discount codes, you give the customer the incentive for the customer to come back and make follow up purchases.

Even if it's only a small discount, or amount of money off the next order ANY saving is good in the mind of ANY consumer.

Promote social media accounts

So this one is really self explanatory, I'm sure on nearly every email communication we get, the companies social media accounts are at the bottom of it, with the massive opening rate of 71% you'd be pretty mistaken to not promote your social media on your marketing emails.

Hab.
