Ibn Battuta Mall: Dubai for Marketfriday by @dswigle part 2 The China Mall

in #marketfriday7 years ago

This is the second blog about our visit to the Ibn Battuta mall in Dubai. Last week we saw India Today we take a trip around the truly astonishing Chinese section of the mall for #marketfriday initiated by @dswigle You will not believe what they have in here?

When you enter. You come to this intersection, where you can decide what country themed part of the mall you would like to visit.

ibn battuta crossroads.jpg

The mall is named after the famous explorer Ibn Battuta and is themed on the various countries he visited over his 30 years of travelling.

This is the entrance to the China Mall. As you enter you can see that this is going to be something special.

The ceilings are lavishly decorated but this is just the beginning.

As you go further in the ceilings become even more fantastical.

Light floods in from the overhead skylight windows with elaborate designs and you think you are in an open market.

You turn another corner and you see a full size Chinese Junk inside the mall!

These vessels were used as cargo ships and the curious thing is that they are still used to this day alongside the Abra Dhows as you can see here

This boat must have been quite something to sail around in back in the day. They are obviously very seaworthy as they are still in use.

After walking around in this astonishing mall we found a coffee truck and sat down for a while to take it all in.

It was well worth the visit and on the way out. You are reminded by this huge brass globe that the world is indeed a fascinating place. When you explore it.

I hope you enjoyed this tour of this epic mall and if you did. Here are some more in this series.

Can you believe it? A whole ship... in a mall? #mindblown

This mall was absolutely over-the-top amazing! I cannot believe a whole Chinese ship between the walls of a mall! Those ships are absolutely massive in size, I am always wondering why they don't topple over they are so "top heavy." The cargo ship is something I would love to be on or even the ship with sails.

You have totally whet my appetite for Dubai! I had never considered it as it was hard to get into years ago (for Americans) unless you had a job, but, I surely will be relooking at that destination.

You have tempted me so very much!!! Thank you again, Michael! This is such a wonderful post!

Upped and Steemed Tip!

I often think it would be nice to go on a cargo ship and wander off around the world and the weird thing is that you can still book passage on one?

There are only usually 12 cabins for passengers but it is doable.

This mall was just out there mind-blowing. Dubai is a must see if you possible can. Darn it, I should be charging them for promoting their country lol. It is stunning.
Thanks for the upvotes and tip! Denise. I hope you feel better soon. Tipuvote!

I have actually looked into it because the rates are awesome and they go places normal ships don't go to. That was the exciting part.

I do feel better. Just a touch of food poisoning. I look forward to sometime in the future going to Dubai!

Tip!

How interesting, so did I. The rates are very reasonable and on some ships the cabins are pretty good.

That's true! Some go into ports nothing else in the world goes to, so no real tourists. That is the exciting part for me! :) We will have to compare note some day.

Wow @molometer! What an incredible mall! I thought we had fantastic shopping here in Pasadena, but we don't have full size ships inside our malls 😊

It was a bit of a #mindblowing experience to walk around the corner and see this ship under full sail...in a mall? Dubai is just incredible.

Wow ... How big is the Mall @molometer? Looking at your awesome photos, I think the mall is so huge :) .. Have a lovely weekend also my friend

It's pretty massive @garokee and all different themes from the countries this guy visited back in the day. They also have an outside food court which was great. We had a Chinese meal for lunch.

Now I'm craving for Chinese Dimsum. I always love to eat Steamed Fried Rice, the Mushroom and Bacon Shaomai, Lumpia Shanghai (spring rolls) ...

O my, now you've got me wanting some too lol and all I've got near me me are some potato chrisps lol

Hehehe ... you should try those. They taste good especially when it is still hot and steamy.

I'm well known to my local Chinese take away restaurant. They call me the dumpling king lol Here's a nice Tipuvote! from me.

I love dumpling a lot ... with quails egg or mushroom or bacon... yummy

How to image set up in the reply box.I am willing to know!

It is so cool to see this again. It bring back some old memories. Too bad I wasn't able to find my pictures, for unknown reason I don't have it now in my facebook account. It was only shared to me by my co-worker before, and I wasn't able to saved it. That's a beautiful photos. ;) Thanks for sharing.

It's a shame that you lost your photos but at least now you can see that the ship is still there and looking as awesome as ever. It is very impressive to see such a huge thing inside of a mall of all places?

Yes I know it is a shame. How I wish I saved it before. I agree with you it fascinated me when I came and saw that mall. Hope next time you can share that old souk near the Burj Al Arab. The interior ceiling are so nice too, even the that small stores inside. And there is also a part of that souk with a beautiful foreground that catch part of Burj Al Arab as its background.

We visited just about every souk and mall in Dubai because as you know. That is what you do in Dubai, as it is so hot. I have loads of photos of the various malls. I'll check to see what I have for the Burj Al Arab. I know we sat on the beach at Jumeirah where I got the photos of that stunning hotel from the Drum bar. It's all a bit of a blur. We saw so many amazing places. I don't recall the souk there? If we visited it, then I'll have photos.

I forget the name of the souq but it's location is between the Burj Al Arab and the Jumeirah yacht place.

A name just popped out of my mind, maybe it is called Souq Madina

Yes I've been there. I'll check my photos. Thanks for reminding me. Have a lovely upvote from tip! from me.

Thank you for that mr. @molometer ;)

this is really amazing, you always share a lot of beautiful, amazing shots, thank you.

Thank you, I am glad you enjoy these posts. They were a lot of fun to get but a bit expensive too. Travel doesn't come cheap as we all know. So by sharing these blogs I hope it gives you a look into other places that you may visit yourself, sometime in the future. tip!

Like the ceiling where boat was.

It was pretty spectacular I agree. But the thing that blew my mind was the fact that they had a full size boat in there in the first place. Astonishing! Not a ship in a bottle lol

Very expensive shopping mall!

It's all relative to the levels of income I guess.

an exciting journey is really great @molometer hope your days are always successful

Thanks Putra, travelling really opens your eyes to the possibilities out there tip!

Beautiful ceilings.

That has got to be one of the most fascinating places to shop! The details are amazing. Although, I am not sure if they would make money from me, because I'd be too busy admiring the halls to go into the shops. :P

I spent all my time taking photos too. The girls bought some dresses for a wedding. So maybe it suited us all tip!

My word! It's like a world within a world (or worlds in this case) Such creative zest, a show to witness. That's what you want from a mall. That way if you aren't much the shopper you have something to keep you engaged ;-)

Whoever thought this place up must have thought of all the long suffering partners that get dragged to shopping. I'm not a keen shopper so this place was a brilliant distraction for me while the girls got on with the serious business of dress buying. tip!

lol I can imagine ;-) All helps make the process a little more bearable :-)
