Aladdin's lamp and so much more: For Marketfriday by @dswigle

in #marketfriday7 years ago

When you think of Arabia what comes to mind? Aladdin's lamp? 1001 Arabian nights and the amazing bazaars? For #marketfriday initiated by @dswigle this week we enter another souk (market) of Dubai. All those treasures that you may have imagined from your childhood and seen in the movies exist, and are here. You just have to know where to find them.

Could this be Aladdin's lamp?

Bejeweled handbags and bracelets.

Fancy dresses, Pashminas and all kinds of long flowing robes are the height of fashion in these lands.

As we go deeper into the market we find ancient games that are still popular today. Like these beautifully carved Backgammon and Chess boards.

In Arabia it is the fashion and culture to sit on the floor but not on a bare floor. They have many varieties of cushions and floor coverings for your comfort.

And of course Persian Carpets and rugs.

Now you are sitting comfortable. How about a fresh cup of coffee. It is a duty in these lands to welcome strangers and give them hospitality.

The Bedouin are a nomadic people and were often shepherds and traders. They furnish their tents with elaborate goods and symbols of their lives.

Woodcuts and other decorative items.

Camels are very important in Arabia and there are many bronze statues used for home decorations. In this little group of statues you can see the influence of the countries they have traded with. Can you identify the countries based on the figures here?

Masks, helmets and lamps trace the various people that have traveled to Arabia over the centuries. Can you recognise any in particular that stand out?

And finally more handbags and shoes because as we know you can never have enough.

First off, I must compliment you on your knowledge of woman's clothing. I did a double take when you called out the name pashminas, just like you bought one every day.

I admire them for their welcoming ways with the hospitality. Who wouldn't be?

I love the eclectic wares in their markets. It looks like they have traded far and wide over the years.

You have done such an incredible job showing off and giving information on all of the markets that you have visited in Dubai! Thank you so much and thank you for taking part in #MarketFriday!

Upped and Steemed Tip!

I'm fully up to speed with the whole Pashminas story. My wife and daughter have many of them and they are very handy when you go to the beach too. For modesty of course :)
Glad you are enjoying these #marketfriday posts they are a great way to show off a countries culture, art and skills.

See you are keeping us guessing. Did you rub the lamp. Oh wait I bet you got the genie and you're keeping it a secret. Well you can't fool me lol.

Not just a Genie but I got magic carpet too. Should save a fortune on air fares lol

Oh well that IS a deal then.

Hiya, just swinging by to let you know that this post made the Honorable mentions list in today's #TravelDigest!

Wow thank you very much @steemitworldmap that's great news. Some great posts here

Stunning pictures Molometer - brings me back to my 2015 Marrakesh trip. I'm in awe of the detail, passion, time and effort that goes into making these pieces. I'm not sure I could sell any of it if made by my hand!

Thanks @mulwade they certainly have some impressive hand crafting skills and not a machine in sight. Almost all hand crafted.

antiques that are very admirable (aladin lamp), a very nice photo @molometer.

Thanks @anwars for the upvote and resteem. They have so many cool items from old to brand new.

equally @molometer. many thanks have appreciated my comments and gave his vote once again I say many thanks for your success always @molometer.

You are welcome @anwars that's why we have the upvote button to reward good comments.

yes sorry, I mean the comment was. In my opinion, better first photo, which uses your smartphone camera, rather than the second photo that uses the camera, Fujifilm finepix.
@Molometer.

Looks like Dubai stores and I would get along quite well! There are so many things down the aisles in the store to peruse @molometer Great album!

They are a shopper's delight @ninahaskin the warren of alleyways and tiny little shops are just charming.

Now you have indeed discovered the whole cave of Ali baba !

It was amazing to see all of these lovely things and people making them too. You just don't get this level of hand crafted stuff in the UK anymore and if you do. It is super expensive.

hello I love the souks so many things and so showy, happy Saturday friend

Thanks @txatxy it was a great trip and we saw some amazing things.

ULTRA exotic. Beautifully capturing the spirit of the market. Such fine trasitional designs and craftsmanship. 🦋

It was a joy to wander around and see all these wonderful hand made goods. Real skills still exist here.

Well, it's safe to say that you certainly don't find such things many other places; a very inspiring market that one :-)

It is so different to what we have in the UK. It's a pleasure to go shopping in a market like this.

I can imagine :-)

A wonderfully inspired market Friday:)

It is an inspirational place. The whole of Dubai is just amazing and well worth a visit

Its been more than two decades, since i last visited Dubai. Amazing jewelry and handicrafts. The countries you have asked for, the one they traded with, i guess Egypt, Iraq or Iran (as they are famous for its carpets and rugs). Love all these souks. Very nostalgic for me. I had been living in Abu Dhabi, for almost eighteen years. But Dubai has its own charm.

Wow 20 years is a very long time and Dubai has completely transformed in that amount of time. They are great traders as you know. It's still the centre of trade. I hear Abu Dhabi is very nice and just an hours drive away.

Yes, just an hour drive away. Its not a cosmopolitan city , as Dubai is. In fact, you can see a lot of local people in Abu Dhabi unlike Dubai. But i have so many beautiful memories of my childhood like my school. Thanks for the share.

So many items, have you bought one? ;) Thought this was in Marina Mall, but it was in Deira.

We got a few items and I will be writing about Marina Mall on next Friday's post. So many beautiful things and places to see.

what good energy transmit your photos

Thanks for popping in and leaving that curious comment?
