in #marketfriday7 years ago (edited)

It's finally Friday and while I have been missing out on posting in #marketfriday for quite some time, I can't wait to show you around the leather market in Fez!

Market Friday is organised by @dswigle and is a great way of seeing markets all around the world. Check out the the tag #marketfriday and the posts resteemed by her if you get the chance!

As a guy, I am usually not a huge fan of shoe shopping and only get a new pair when my old ones are worn off, but the shoes sold at the leather market in Fes el-Bali, the old town of Fez, were fascinating even to me. I did not buy any shoes though but went with taking photos of different shoe patterns.

I don't know if some clever merchants are selling some imported shoes disguised as leather, but as far as I could tell, all the shoes are produced locally, many of them are actually manufactured right in the stall that sell them.

The leather for the shoes is produced in the local tannery that is located within the city borders of Fes el-Bali. The process of manufacturing leather is quite amazing; I am planning on publishing a short photo documentary about the tanneries of Fez soon, so stay tuned!

Morocco has some amazing cities and customs! Half of Nomadsfix has been there and we can't wait to go back together to discover more of Morocco.
Anything from Morocco has such a great vibe of colors!

Morocco is amazing! I didn't end up getting any shoes in the end, probably since I was too busy taking photos of them :D

These are great shots! I loved seeing the different leather work done there in Morocco!

I have been to several tanneries here in the states and I was amazed at the process used to tan the hides. I think that would be an awesome post and very interesting! (I wish I had thought of it! LOL)

Wonderful post and I can hardly wait to see more from you!

Upped and Steemed Tip!

Thank you @dswigle! The leather work they do in Morocco is awesome, apart from shoes they manufacture a huge variety of leather products. I got a leather pencil case from one of the tanneries and a small purse from another one.

Beautiful shots! I've been to a tannery in Marrakesh, and you're right. That's an experience that requires its own post!

I visited various tanneries in Morocco, they are so fascinating!

Interesting and beauty photos ❤ @jpphotography

Great photographs @jpphotography. Another enticing piece of Morocco.

Those people standing on the dye vats look a bit precarious! #bsm

Haha, losing balance would not be good there!

Very nice photo, colourful. And nice place

We visited the Fez markets about 25 years ago. It was fascinating we left the tour group and went on our own to buy some rugs because we thought they were ripping us off. We bought some and then paid a little boy to help us find our way out of the medina. We had a great time.

Fez is such a maze, it is so hard to find the way without one of these more or less shady guides!

@steem881 you're on the @abusereports naughty list!
